reduced oil level after storage

My 05 GT only has about 17,000 miles on it as I only drive it on sunny days during the summer. I have not had time to drive it this summer unfortunately.

I start the car up every so often. I noticed that I might be down about half a quart of oil. Is this typical for my situation? I normally do one oil change a year but have not done one this year.

Well, it can't disappear. Had to have leaked out somewhere.

I'm not a machanic but I would agree it either leaked out or is it possible that you are burning oil?

I don't spin wrenches either but I'd say it's highly unlikely he's burning oil with only 17k miles. But who knows lol

There is nothing on the ground or inside the engine compartment. My car looks virtually brand new.

I will go and have another look.

Define "down about half a quart". You mean down a half from the top of the hash marks on the dip stick? After your last oil change was it at the top of the hash marks?
When I change my oil and add the specified 6 qts, run it a bit to make sure the oil is circulated thru the oil filter, turn the engine off for 15 mins to let the oil drain back into the pan, mine shows only halfway on the hash marks.

Yes, that is exactly what I mean by down half a quart I have not driven my car since last year. I do start it up and let it run a bit every 6 weeks or so.

I started it up yesterday and let it warm up. I then waited for about 2 to 3 minutes and checked the oil level which was in between the hash marks. I know you mention 15 minutes, but in the past after I fill up at the gas station.....I sometimes just wait 2 to 3 minutes and check my oil and it is usually up to the top of the hash marks.

If that is what your oil level looks like, I would say you are pretty close to the top (i.e. to the far right of the hash marks in your picture). Mine is in the middle.

The picture isn't clear but its in the middle. That's normal right after a 6 qt oil chg. And mine doesn't use any oil between changes (about 3k only because I change it before storage and only drive about 3k during the summer months, otherwise I'd change it at 5k). So it stays in the middle.

Unless you saw a change on the stick, I'd say yours is normal in the middle.

I am going to drive it this week as I am getting a permit. I will see where the oil level is at after I drive it a bit.

Thanks for the feedback!
