That's why we need Tillman to copy a Ford ProCal Bullitt tune and offer it up with their other tunes. One stop shopping would be a dream. Then I can just use my SCT X3 that I got from Tillman to put mine in compliance with the Bullitt intake for smog purposes (hint, hint Chris )

Suspect there are some liability and infringement issues in doing that ... but that would be the ideal solution.

I wonder if it would be an issue since they would just be copying the tune specs. In fact, when I got my SCT tuner and installed the Tillman tunes, the first thing it did was to download the factory specs into the tuner. Let's assume that I had installed a Bullit CAI that came with the Ford ProCal Bullitt tune, wouldn't the SCT tuner have then downloaded that ProCal Bullitt tune first into the tuner before uploading the new tunes? I suppose I could have ordered the ProCal and just done that in the first place, but it would have been several hundred dollars more to go that route.

I could be wrong, but I suspect these Ford tunes are tied to the VIN number(?).

So when you order the Bullitt CAI with Ford ProCal, they ask for the VIN number and assign the tune? Anybody do this?

I don't know if they ask for the VIN. They defenitely want something before you receive your ProCal unit.

From Ford's own add:

* Kit includes 85 mm mass air meter and voucher for Pro-Cal tool with official Ford Racing calibration
* DUE TO MULTIPLE CALIBRATIONS, ONLINE REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED TO RECEIVE PRO-CAL TOOL AFTER PURCHASE
* Engine calibrations are developed and supported for U.S. and Canadian
vehicles only
* 50-States Street Legal (E.O. #D-598-3)

For what purpose? Just to keep everything emissions legal? Tell me what we're trying to achieve and I'll get it done!

Is the Ford ProCal Bullitt CAI tune standard for every car Chris? If so, the ideal scenario would be to be able to download that tune into the SCT tuners that you sell and have it available to tune our Bullitt CAI equipped cars when we have to take it to the dealer. If I need to get a smog, and if I had the Bullitt CAI with Ford ProCal tune, I am assuming that it would pass smog since it is Ford parts and tune. If I take my car in now for smog, I have the Ford Bullitt CAI, but your tunes and I am assuming I would not pass smog. However, if you copied exactly the Ford ProCal Bullitt CAI tune and I installed it, can the OBD II computer tell that it is not from Ford? Or, would the OBD II computer recognize the parameters as being the same as the Ford tune and pass the smog? Otherwise I have to put the stock airbox back on and load the stock tune for smog purposes. Not a major pain, but it would be easier to have the Ford Bullitt tune available.

Could it be that regionally Ford applies different calibrations? Like maybe a Denver CO Mustang has a different calibration / tune off the show room floor than a Mustang delivered in Houston.

I looked at the registration instructions for receiving a Ford ProCal tuner and tune and they ask for your VIN, the PCM part number, axle ratio, and tire circumference so clearly they customize the tune to the specs that you provide them. I would assume that the PCM part number probably tells them where the car is sold and maybe you are right that the tunes from Ford are different depending on the part of the country the car is sold in. I wonder why they as for the PCM part number though since you would think the PCM part would be the same but the four digit code would determine what tune is in the car. Could the PCM's also be different?

Maybe Chris, Bamachips or Brenspeed will enlighten us?

I was looking to a instrument cluster upgrade on my sons 07 Focus to the one with a Tach. Even that seems to be tied to the vehicle ID. Pretty soon everything will have a ID chip.

Like I told you all before, get the FRPP tune first then load the aftermarket ones.

You guys never listened and went for the vendors instead.

The power of God's internets.

Look familiar, and Ford racing does ask for vin#'s so don't pm me asking me to lend you my tuner.

I'd love to have an identical pic of a liner that is before 1/25/07 to put up against these.
