A question for you Whipple guys

Does anyone know the part # for the serpentine belt? Mine is slightly frayed in one spot on the edge and I want to replace it. Or do I need to be concerned? Would it be ok to carefully clean up that edge with a razor? It's a spot a couple of inches long on the inside edge.

Belt

It is a 124.7 inch belt. The only place you can get it is Whipple. I tried several places and there was no cross reference for the belt. Whipple gets about 60.00 for it I think. If you find it somewhere else let me know.

I just had the Whipple installed by a Ford dealer last week. So I'm going to hit them up for a replacement belt.

Sam, I didn't know this. Instead of paying Whipple $60 for a unique belt, it may be worth investigating the possibility of buying one of their smaller pullies in conjunction with a generic length belt..... hmmm....

Willie,

I thought about this. I plan on ordering a 12lb pulley and asking what belt it takes. I wonder if they use the same belt and take up the slack in the adjustable tensioner.

On a side note, I still plan on getting the hose from you for the FP gauge. My oil seperator should be here this week. Thanks for all your help.

The guy on the Ford Racing hotline told me the belts that Whipple uses are actually 10 rib belts cut down in width to fit and that the strands of theads that may appear do not affect the performance of the belt.
Whipple sells the belt for $89.99 + shipping.

I'd just clean it up and not worry about it. It won't have any affect on the rest of the belt. It's likely due to a pulley alignment issue. If you clean it up and it continues to happen then check your pulleys. If the pulleys are misaligned or have knicks/burrs it'll happen to your new belt as well.

I would try Autozone for a Goodyear Gatorback belt. My guess is they will have one that is that length. The Whipple belt should have a part number on it and if you give that too the Parts guy he should be able to cross reference it for a Goodyear belt.

Wow, talk about customer service. I just received a call from non other than Art Whipple himself! I just have to return to the installing dealer so that they can check everthing out and then they'll send out a replacement belt. He told me that they have had no problems of this type before and want to make sure everything is OK.

Well, I can tell you that I've never had belt issues either. Forget the fact that my compressor was replaced with only ~250 miles on it..... that's another story.

I took it in to the dealer and everthing is OK. The alignment is fine and the new belt is on order.
I'm thinking I might be doing the intercooler, boost upgrade sooner than expected.
