I've just ran 5,000 miles with RP 5W-20, but noticed that at least on the bottles I bought, it didn't claim that it met Ford spec WSS-M2C930-A. So I went back to M1, since they also started stocking 5W-20 in the 5 qt jugs at Wal-Mart for $22.00. No one in town carries 5W-20 RP, I had to order it from Summit.

Also, just switched to Wix filters, based on a recommendation. A little cheaper than a M1 filter, but equivalent quality, seems like.

 

I contacted Ford Australia about what oil to use in their 2007 Barra 230 (5.4L 3V V8 with VCT) and they stated to use SAE 5W-30. Keep in mind the Barra 230 is made up on parts made in the US and that it is assembled in Australia (in the Last V8 Production Facility). Ford's recommendation to use 5W-20 is purely for emissions/fuel economy (CAFE) and not primarily for optimal protection.

 

I don't worry about the protection afforded by 5w-20 grade oil as compared to 5w-30, especially if it's excellent Motorcraft 5W-20. And I mean US Motorcraft, not Canadian dealer Motorcraft, which is not Synthetic Blend. (I buy all my Motorcraft oil and filters in the US at Walmart.)

I use Royal Purple but today the shop i went to is out of it so I went with Mobile 1.... almost went with redline but it was 10/qt so screw that.

What's known about Amsoil? I have heard lots of different things, some good and some bad. Just wondering

 

I personally believe in it, just maybe not for as long of a drain interval as they claim. I would be comfortable going 10K miles between changes though.

 

Amway oil is best used with their bypass filter. Otherwise, 10k-16k mile intervals are generally acceptable with their full synthetic oils.

The current API SM / ILSAC GF-4 oils are all pretty good anyhow. If you drive a lot of miles a year, you may want to get the high-end Group IV/V synthetics like the Mobil 1 EP or Amway oil. If you don't drive too much in a year, the Motorcraft 5W-20 or 5W-30 synth blend will suffice.

 

I use Ford 5w20 full synthetic (which I was told is produced by Exxon, makers of Mobile 1).

 

Do you mean Amsoil? I thought Amway went under.

 

The Motorcraft oils are generally made by Conocco-Phillips.
