Pypes Off Road H-pipe Install

So I went to have these installed today, but the shop wouldnt do it because of the fines they would acrue for removing the catz. ($25,000)

Are you guys having them removed or getting high flow catz??

Second question...After removing the catz are anyone of you getting a check engine light?

I have a bama tune, so it might not be an issue..

Just do it yourself. It's a piece of cake on S197's. At least, compared to SN95's, it is.

I have never heard of fines for removing cats. I could see it happening in California.

It's a federal offense to not run catalytic converters. I don't know about in other states, but in northern VA, feds have been known to randomly monitor exit ramps with special emissions equipment to search for people improperly running cats or not using them at all. I believe the personal fine is a couple thousand dollars...

Thats for no cats at all. For a shop, it is up to 50k per offense.

If you add cats to an offroad h pipe don't you end up exactly where you started? At least add high flow cats if you absolutely must (which you don't).

Edit: Opps, didn't notice that you said the same thing Matt.

But if you want to install them, I have a write-up in my How-To thread.

No, but yes.

I got all caught up in buying the setup for the added throaty sound, etc, and wasnt even thinking about the cats being removed. When I opened the box and then looked under my car, I soon realized the mistake I made.

I would love to just get rid of the cats, but in my position, if it was mentioned, it could be a major issue and its just not worth the mess.

Sooo my question and maybe I will just make a separate thread, but I am now looking for some high flow cats.

I am unsure how high flow cats act installed...any hp gains from being less restrictive? Will it be louder/throatier??
