As far as drone on a scale from 1-10, the gta's and the stockers are 0. the pypes is really odd because the drone in 5th gear at 2k is almost a 0, i'm not even sure it drones in that situation. In 1st, 2nd, 3rd it would be a 4. The stingers are a 10 for drone. the pypes have as much drone as I can handle.
I've had the FRPP Stingers now for 2500+ miles and the drone just doesn't seem that bad. As a matter of fact it seems like its better and better in non existent. I used to hear it between 1500 and 1950 RPM's but now I just really don't hear it. I wouldn't trade the FRPP Stingers for anything, they are the best in my book. What a great tone they have....................

Sorry, didn't get to pm you. Here's links to the OBX/mid-muffler setup. It's shot with a camera, so the volume is greatly reduced, compare with stock H & mid-mufflers.
Wednesday, I'll be putting the GTA's back on, I'll get a vid after.

I still hear the drone and I still don't like it but I too would not trade my Stingers for anything!

Thanks...I was thinking about the Pypes system before I got my Stingers and now knowing that the Stingers are a little louder makes me think I made the right choice. I don't think I could could give up any loudness is concerned.

Hey Aircare,

I have never heard of OBX headers. Could you tell me a little bit about them?
Are they quality?

I will definitely be in the market for headers soon, and I'm in a budget crunch. As of right now, I'm set on a Dynatech setup.

Thanks!

Have you tried the pypes mid mufflers? They are basically the same thing as stingers only before the axle and have less drone by far. I've had the stingers and they drone really bad. The stingers are louder than the pypes, but the pypes might have a deeper tone to them. My stingers also didn't fit onto the stock pipe worth a poop! The pipe on the mufflers was way to larger and over tightening the clamps resulted in a crease in the flange. I'm much happier with the sound of the pypes.

Here's a thread about them;

Excellent quality, fit was good/average.A little loud for my tastes with the mid-muffler setup, so I re-installed the GTA's today. Before you buy your mid-muffler setup, PM me, I've got a set with 4000m on it I'll have for sale here

My old setup (Bassani Catted X, Stingers) was louder then my current system (BBK LTs, Matching Catted X, Pypes MM) up to about 2250rpms and anything above that at WOT the new Pypes blow the old Stingers out of the water.

Trumpeting is still there at 3/4 throttle right around 2500rpms but the Drone is completely gone. The little burble/pop grumble on deacceleration that the Stingers had, is also absent with the Pypes MM.

Haven't tried any other exhaust set up as I'm throughly satisfied with the Stingers and like I said I just don't hear any drone any longer. All is good for me and like they say "If it ain't broke don't................

Thanks for the feedback though, good to know for the future.

I don't get any pop, but I still have a deep burble when I downshift and let the engine slow the car down.

Yeah thats basically what Im talking about, (edit but I felt it was more pronounced with the Stingers.

IMO Pypes sounds noticably different/Better all through the RPM band but I personally liked the Deacceleration tone the Stingers had better. However the ****ed off, muscular, nascar symphony that comes with the Pypes at WOT around 3K+ is absolutely to die for!

Okay, I've gone backwards here. Here's my recently removed Pypes Mid-Muffler system. On the car for 3M,12d. 3,545m. If I hadn't installed the headers, I would still be running these.
