Motorcraft. *shrug*

All you guys are all about your $10 per quart synthetics...Motorcraft synthetic blend is just fine, at least as far as I'm concerned. BTW, just changed it not too long ago at 2100 miles.

My reason for not wanting to go with a synth is that I may not always be able to find the synth oils where I am, and once you use it, start using a synth in the engine you can't use an organic oil, correct? I think overall that the organic oil is the safer way for me to go.

Well I would say just use the best oil you can get on a regular basis and change it regularly. Don't let the oil sit in there for extended periods of time. Even if you don't drive it, I would change it before it sits again. I have read that about 4 months and you should get the oil changed. Very nice looking Vert too Mike

There is not a problem with switching back and forth between synthetic and mineral oil, however, the Motorcraft syn blend 5W20 is an excellent oil and a good value. It is produced by Conoco Phillips and is about 50% group 3 sythethic.

by the way, synthetic oil is not that expensive. it's pricier than non-synthetic or blend, but i just changed my oil and used synthetic. for 6 quarts of mobil 1 10w-30 and a fram filter, i paid less then $30. just look around a little for a good deal. if i went to my local pep boys, i would have paid al least $10 more.

Ditto on the Mobil 1 !!!!!!! And yes, it's ok to switch back and forth...

Since we're on the subject, guys, what about MIXING regular and synthetic? Can you do that?

If you have the car in Germany, ask Ford what they recommend for use in Europe, including on autobahns. In Australia, I'm sure they will recommend a 5W-40 synthetic for their roads and climate, which Ford's 5.4-litre modular Falcon's come with from the factory.

In the US, Ford recommends a 5W-20 and Motorcraft's (Ford's) is probably the best Synthetic Blend oil there is.

In any case, I would go several more oil changes on Synthetic Blend before switching to pure Synthetic.

I could not find Mobil 1 5-20 Syn here. So I brought Castrol 5-20 Syn for the oil change and a stock Ford filter for the 4.6L. Thanks for the guidance and help.

Castrol Syntec isn't pure synthetic motor oil, just in case you didn't know. I used to use it all the time too but not anymore. I think someone on here linked to a couple of sites that talked about the different kinds of oil ingredients, base stock, etc.... Very interesting reading too.

That brings up a slightly off topic question.
When I bought my GT, long story short, they threw in a deal for 6yrs 60000 mile free oil change. Any idea if they will honor using Mo1 Synthetic?

I'm guessing you'll have to pay extra for the synthetic. I believe its worth it.

My mother's car has been running mobil1 since the engine was broken in. If and when that car dies, I would love to pull the motor and inspect it for wear
