Pinion Shims and oil slinger
Pinion Shims and oil slinger
About 2 weeks ago my 05 GT developed a very bad grinding noise and gear oil leakage and had to flat deck car home. I have removed the axle and disassembled the dif, pinion etc. Turns out my outer pinion bearing had spun, broke and fused itself to the oilslinger.
A couple weeks eailer I had a new one piece pinion flange/drive shaft installed. it may be possible the installer over or under tightened the flange. dont know for sure.
Here is my question(s).
1. My oil slinger was fused to the bearing and is pretty much unidentifyable. Is the oil slinger similar to the pinion shims?
2. Does the oil slinger come with the popular Motive rebuild kit?
3. Should the inner bearing be seated tight to the pinion head/shims? Mine had about 1/8" betweem head and bearing with shims loose and spinning. Possible from the previous (2 years ago) 4:10 install.
4. What purpose do the bolted on weights on the axle serve? Bolted to the LCR mounts.
Thaks everyone.
