pinion angle confusion

the more I read the more confused I get...

Some web pages indicate to first determine the angle of driveshaft where it meets up with the pinion, then determine the angle of the flange - the difference is your pinion angle.

The Steeda UCA instructions say to measure the angle of the FRONT part of the driveshaft, subtract the pinion flange angle, and that is the pinion angle.

The FORD CD Manual says to measure the back half of the drive shaft only. No mention of the flange angle.

So... I guess I'll put the car up on stands, take all measurements, do the install, and take all the measurements again. Hopefully the jackstands won't have moved... much.

Its the angle between the back half of your drive shaft and the pinion gear. Since you cant measure the face of the mounting flange with the drive shaft installed use the outer part of the mounting flang.

Please excuse the ignorant question. How would you do this? I have a magnetic angle finder, so getting the angle from the drive shaft is easy...but how do you get the angle from the outer part of the mounting flang? I just adjusted my Adj UCA by length -3mm from stock length since I didn't want to disconnect my driveshaft.

thx...
