Modular Depot in Cincinatti sent it down there last week. Ken B. and the gang is going to do the tuning on her once it gets back here. It would be great if you could get a shot of it. Ken B. from MD gave me a quote of 2 weeks when I sent it down there.
Thanks,
Ron Hoover

Wow David!

That looks amazing! I can't wait to see some numbers, but I just want to see it back in the car and you posting more pics at the track!

Having a 9000RPM safe threshold, will be like going to a Bank, and having the teller say that she is not sure how many zeros are at the end of your account balance!

I mean, talk about laying someone down in the 1/8th mile... By the time you wind up 1st gear to 9000RPM, you would be maybe 50ft away from the 1/8th marker.. LOL!! Jesus...

9000RPM is completely insane... That thing is going to pull so many G's, your going to have to reinforce your headrest!

If I remember correcctly, that is an engine built for a Turbo correct? Which means, insane boost levels.. Thinking of how much exhaust will be pushing through at 9000rpm is crazy...

I think your going to twist the frame of the 2005 Mustang GT.. Are you planning on reinforcing the chassis at all?

Lets look at some numbers based on shifting at 9000RPM...

Based on Stock 26 in tires of the GT Mustang and a 3.55 pinion and ring

Out of the hole

1st gear = 3.38:1 ratio = 58MPH @ 8993 RPM

Shifting to 2nd gear

2nd gear = 2.00:1 ratio = 98MPH @ 8991 RPM

Shifting to 3rd

3rd Gear = 1.32:1 ratio = 148MPH @ 8962 RPM

Shifting to 4th gear

4th gear = 1.0:1 ratio = 196MPH @ 8991RPM

So as you can see, I see a frame bending future for you my friend!!

LOL. I won't have the stock tranny in, so I'm not sure if that changes your figures and I'll be on 28" tires. It'll have a TKO600 with a 5th gear. 9000 rpm's just means it'll be built to handle spinning it up. I honestly don't know where I'll be shifting it at. As of right now, I anticipate shifting around 5500-6000. I'll just need to figure it out with a few passes. 196mph LOL. I'm not really sure how much boost will be applied. Still using the stock exhaust manifolds, turned forward. That may be the restriction or the cams may be the restriction. Trying to see what theses too parts will allow. Right now, I still have 4.10's in it. The gear size is still up in the air. I'm having the rearend housing welded up. Today, I ordered some 9" axle housing ends and axles from JPC. This will prevent the necessity of C-clip eliminators. So, The housing will be reinforced, 9" axle housing ends and new axles. By the way, I'll have some Moser 31 spline axles for sale with 3" studs. I'm not too sure about any frame bending as a turbo isn't too hard on the rearend components. All that power isn't hammering the rearend and tranny from a standstill or at launch.

I'll re-work the numbers for the TKO600 Tranny.. Stand by!

TKO600 Shifting @ 9000RPM with 4.10's

Out of the hole

1st Gear = 2.87:1 Ratio = 59MPH @ 8971 RPM

Shifting to 2nd Gear

2nd Gear = 1.89:1 Ratio = 89MPH @ 8912RPM

Shifting to 3rd gear------------------------------------You already lost the race... The other setup just pulled 2 car lengths!!

3rd gear = 1.28:1 Ratio =132MPH @ 8952 RPM

He's gone...

Shifting to 4th gear

4th gear = 1.0:1 Ratio = 169MPH @ 8954 RPM

So as you can see here, you just got smoked!! LOL!! But atleast your trap speed was 169MPH!! I know there is no way you could have known this!!

It all makes sense now!!!

David,
I am assume the dyno #'s will tell you what rpm you will being shifting at and I am pretty sure it won't be 9000 rpm. If it is. What a monster!! I have been following your build up but don't remember if you are still using the stock cams. If so I would think your shift points would be similiar. The new trans and it's gearing will have alot to say about shifts points also. Keep it coming. We are all glued to the computer!!!!

Thanks

I think you should dis-regard the 4.10's and put the 3.55's back in... If your running a Turbo, then 3.55's would be better for you...

Here's a thread of the tear down:

Here's a thread and pics of the motor in progress
http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index....opic=40378&hl=
I couldn't be there for most of the in progress work, like porting and such.
In regards to shift points etc, Honestly, I'm on a blank page right now. When it's time, we'll figure the best gearing to go with and work off the dyno chart. The whole rearend is coming apart anyways for the welding/reinforcing. I know I won't be shifting at 9K though. I would love for it to go thru the traps in third at peak HP!

I know the "Davis" was most likely a typo, but that's what all my buddies called me in college for some reason.

Food for thought... Lets say we set it to 7500RPM shift point.. Looking at the numbers for the 4.10's and the TKO600... Just so you have some type of insight when your looking at the dyno numbers during tunning and proper shift points.. With a safe spin up to 9000RPM, you should feel extremely safe shifting at 7500RPM... This is still quite impressive to say the least..

I'll make it short and sweet..

Shifting at 7500 RPM With the Tremec TKO600 5Spd Transmission with 4.10's

1st Gear = 2.87:1 = 49MPH @ 7451RPM

2nd Gear = 1.89:1 = 74MPH @ 7410RPM

3rd Gear = 1.28:1 = 110MPH @ 7460RPM

4th Gear = 1.0:1 = 141MPH @ 7471RPM

So with these numbers, you can expect to need about 831HP @ the crank by 7500 RPM, and a max vehicle weight of 3800 Lbs.. This will effectively allow you to run in the 9.66 ET class...

This I feel is a realistic short term goal for you to procede with 169Stang.. All the numbers which I have posted are 100% accurate, and can be trusted for you to make decisions concerning your setup.. Understanding that shifting at 9000RPM may seem alittle brave, I have made a more conservative situation for you to allow the motor to last you for quite awhile... So When looking at the dyno in the short term, you need to be producing no less than 831HP by 7500RPM..

Now you atleast have an idea on what to look out for... LOL!! Believe me, I know I am talking to a master.. You have got to be one of the best people on this board to seek advice from.. But right now you have alot on your plate.. I am just trying to take all the guess work out, to allow you to focus on your goals.. Good Luck, and let us know how its going!

Also keep in mind that I dont see a problem with your motor making this kind of power by 7500RPM... Just increase the boost until it start to get close..

Also, do you have any idea how much boost the motor has been represented to handle? This is important 169Stang, because if you cant make 831HP by 7500RPM, then you will need to stress the motor more with more boost... Your ideal situation is making your numbers with no more than 14PSI.... If you can make 831HP @ the crank by 7500RPM with 14PSI on the turbo setup, then you have a darn fine motor...
