Does this happen alot with thte MGW shifter or any other shifter.

As far as I know, that was a problem with the original beta release shifters. The mounting bolts for the shifter handle were a tad to long, the end of the bolt and the nut made contact with the boot on the drivers side.
I have on of those first shifters, all that was needed was to reverse the mounting block so that the bolts exited on the right side of the shifter where there is more clearence. Geroge has since revised the block and the mounting hardware, shouldn't be a problem now. I suppose you could position the shifter handle in such a way that it might make contact if the handle is positioned way to the left toward the dirver. Thats why the instructions say to check the boot after re-installing it.
