Re-oiling C&L Air Filter

Hey guys,
It's been about 2.5 months since I've had my C&L in
and it's time for a replacement. But I saw on the forums that you
can just re-oil the current filter.
Where can I buy this kit?
Is it hard to do?
Or should I just buy the replacement filter for $40?

Thanks in advance.

I think you can just buy the K&N brand "recharger" kit. It comes with a special detergent and oil. Directions are easy. I had a C&L and asked this same question. Several people on here told me that was the way to go. I never used it on my C&L cuz I ended up selling it, but I have used this kit on a K&N when I had my Tahoe and it worked great. You can get this kit at any auto parts place and Wal Mart.

use care not to over-oil... your MAF sensor will pay the price. Also, I thought these filters could go 20K without recharging... 2.5 months?

Did my first cleaning @ 18,000 or so. Did not need it that soon IMO. Used the K&N recharger kit myself.

Was interesting as I discovered the my Shaker scoop actually fed in quite a bit of air onto the filter,as I had a round dirty spot where my air tube fed into the shroud for the JLT2.

I have cleaned mine once in the 20 K miles I have on my car. I agree with Larry that the CDC shaker hood does feed alot of air to the filter. Easy to tell by the amount of bugs and bees on that side of the filter. I also use the K&N recharger kit!

Make sure when you clean your filter you let the thing dry over night.I once got in a hurry and applied the oil before the filter was dry.It didn't breath quite right and was bogging down the the engine. It was on an older carbureted engine. If the water and oil mixed it could screw up your MAS.

Yes make sure that when you clean it you shake and tap off any lose debris and then spray the outside of the filter throughly with the cleaner and let sit for 10 min. Then rinse with cold water from the inside out. Do not use high pressure for it will damage the cotton gauze material. Make sure that you rinse all of the dirt out and if you have to apply the cleaning solution to the outside of the filter a second time and let sit another 10 min. and rinse again from the inside. Let the filter sit over night to dry and then re apply the red dye oil to the filter and try not to over oil it. Be sure that all of the pleats are light red and evenly covered. Good luck with the cleaning and re oiling of your filter. I have done my C&L 4 times now. (100,000 miles on the car) Also if you can find it get a can of mass air flow sensor cleaner and spray inside the mass air element to clean the delicate wires. This will help the car to have an accurate airflow reading every time you clean your filter.

The amount of miles you can get on an air filter depends what conditions you are driving in. Obviously someone in the desert will have to clean it more than someone who doesn't live in a dusty area.

Hey n00bstang, can you please send me the link where I can buy the replacement filter from C&L. I've looked all over and couldn't find where to order it off the website. I know I am probably totally blind and its very obvious.

Clean your filter in the summer time and you don't need to let it sit over night, just put it in the sun and rotate every 10 minutes or so till dry. I didn't clean mine till over 20K and it was pretty dirty. I had rotated it around 10K as it was drawing in more air in certain spots.
