Performance 89 from Bamachips?
Does anyone use a Bamachips 89 performance tune and if so how do you like it? Dougs been so busy, it's hard to get through for this answer from the man himself.

I have a tuner arriving today that I got him to stick the performance 89 on. I plan on running with that for a little while then trying the 93 performance and torque tunes.
Hopefully I'll know something about the tune by tomorrow.

Thanks, Chris...I will be waiting to hear your results. That's the same package I want. My reasoning was that the 89 performance would be better than the 87 for daily travel.

Seeing that you have to cycle in tanks of 93, I don't see using 89 tunes and 93 tunes as being a quick swap. I ordered two 91 tunes and a 93, went straight to the 93 though Got the other tunes if I'm somewhere you can't get 93... I was driving normally down the parkway with it and the computer was giving me stupid high mileage figures, don't know how accurate it is though

I tried, but couldn't find a FAQ on the differences between the tunes (Perf, Race, Torque). Anyone have info? I'm thinking of an 87, 91 and a 93 (just in case I'm in a state that has it). If you buy "extra' tunes, will the SCT II store them as well?

I was very interested in these question not to long ago and based on my searches here are answers to the top perf/torque/race FAQs as I saw it: Performance focuses on power on high rpms, torque focuses on low rpms, and race is the same as performance but with a much more responsive throttle. Torque and race tunes are not offered for 87 octane because there is not enough flexibility with in the tuning parameters to do so. If you want torque or race tunes you need to go 91 or 93 octane. All are safe for everyday driving (although some claim that race tune is too touchy for everyday.. but I personally have no idea what they're talking about unless those that think it’s touchy are driving automatics since they can’t feather the clutch). Yes, you can run an 87 octane tune on 93 octane gas but not the other way around. There is not a much difference between 91 and 93 octane tunes but there isn’t really much of a price difference between 91 and 93 octane gas so you might as well go 93 for the extra few hp.
No the SCT cannot store extra tunes (I think the SCT can only store three tunes) and you cannot download them from the SCT to your pc. But you can upload tunes from your pc to the SCT provided you get your tuner to e-mail you all your tunes. (someone might need to verify that for me since I’ve never done it though).

I did start it and blip the throttle. It seemed, um, really responsive.
Hope it's dry in the morning for my drive to work. Then I can figure out if the throttle thing was just my hopeful imagination.

I got an 87 performance, 93 torque and 93 performance. Holy crap the 93 performance feels nice. It's WAY better than the canned Steeda tune in the Predator. I think Doug's playing games with the throttle gain to make it feel faster though. It pulls like a raped ape for sure. In hindsight I don't know why I bought the three tunes. 93 is readily available in my area. For the couple dollars (at most) difference per tank I don't see the point in running anything less. I think the power gain from a 93 tune vs. an 87 tune is well worth a couple cups of coffee.

I'd skip 87 tunes altogether. You can't do much with it and I ran 89 octane anyway as the stock tune would get slight detonation(it would correct it immediately) on hot days. To cover the best of all worlds if you must have a low-octane tune for some odd reason go with 89P/91P/93R.
Best bang for the buck seems to be either (2) variations of 91/(1) 93 or (1)91/ and (2) variations of 93's.
Everyone who gets an 87 tune doesn't use it.

As for what to do with the other two tunes, I personally I can't tell the power difference between race and torque. But I can feel the throttle response difference (93R just kicks ****).. therefore getting the torque tune for me was a waste. Now that I know, I would've got 93R and 91R (in case 93R knocks for some reason) as my other two.
I know doug is busy so I'll ask here, what's bamachips policy on this stuff? If I ask to replace the 93T I currently have with 91R, would he do that at no charge? If so, how would it work? Would he just e-mail me 91R and then I overwrite 93T on my SCT?

Yes, but I think you would have to put the stock airbox back on. The guy that was working for doug at the time I bought my C&L Racer said that the computer would likely go into a fail safe mode if I went WOT with a stock tune and CAI on it.

Got to get on it with the 89 Performance a little bit today. It's been raining a lot and the roads aren't the driest they've been.
The throttle response is immediately noticeable. You barely have to blip the throttle to get going.
Also, in my limited driving, it feels like the power comes on more smoothly. I didn't notice the sudden burst after 3k RPM. It was already there.
So far, so good.
I'll probably run another tank or two of 89 before I give the 93 tunes a try.
