Painting your Valve covers

Have any of you guys painted or changed your valve covers on your 4.6. If you have what color did you go and did you have any problems? Also if I pull mine off is the factory gasket reusable?

I've done it. It's easy. Used High heat spray paint and high heat clear. The gasket is reuseable. Do a search there should be lots of info on this.

Just a few additional pointers. The gasket is resusable, but take a little care when pulling the old ones off. There is a bit of silicone used in two spots on each side, right where the front timing cover mates to the cylinder head. You'll need to gently peel this stuff up, spray with silicone gasket remover, and use a PLASTIC scraper to remove the balance fo the residue. Add a couple of new blobs of RTV Black gasket maker, and you'll be fine. Once you're done painting your covers, you may want to hit them with a coat of wax, to keep the paint maintenance to a minimum. Also, use blue painters tape to liberally cover the pieces while you're doing the install so that you don't scratch and scrape your clean covers up on wiring harnesses, etc.

I painted mine........
1. Used etching primer.
2. Reg. automotive paint (same as body)
3 I install my custom decals then cleared over them.

Sorry, I didn't take any pics before installing on the engine.

You can buy new gaskets if you want but these gaskets are hard to screw up and are very pliable. Save yourself $24. I bought them just in case and returned them today for a refund.

Thanks guys. I work at a paint manufacture and distributor so I have been deciding between a high temp paint we have or powder coat. My biggest questions were if the gaskets were reusable or not and how much of a ***** it would be to take them off. I think I am going to powder coat them red.
