Paint Peeling on Differential

Recently I had my 07 GT vert in for new wheels and tires. The mechanic pointed out that the paint was peeled off my differential cover and it was very hot.
Wondered if this is normal ? 6500 miles
Some history, I have Eibach pro kit no other suspension or engine mods. Since the lowering kit was installed I have had a steering wheel wiggle on 4different sets of wheels and tires. The bigger the wheel , the worse the steering wheel shakes. At this point I am going to put the stock springs back on to see if the wiggle goes away. 300 dollar experiment.

a steering wheel shake is caused by off balance tires 99% of the time. you may have some loose suspension components if installed incorrectly, but generally alot of noise would accompany that.

As for your dif cover, take it in to the dealer and have them worry about it.

Unless there's been some change made that I am unaware of, the diff. cover is bare aluminum from the factory...no paint to peel off.

My 2007's rear-end is painted black, including the axle cover.

Early '07's had the shiny covers and somewhere along the '07 model year they went to painted.

If I had the painted one, I'd get the one Taco Bill has. That is sweet!!!!

Thanks guys, I will have the dealer look at the differentail
after I remove the Eibach springs. After 4 sets of wheels and tires multiple road force balances, there has to be somthing more than a bad balance

I have the FRPP girdle on my other Ford 8.8" and it is a waste of money. It came with cheap black oxide bolts that required a hex head to tighten, and the drain/fill plugs are also black oxide. Black oxide will rust VERY easily. You can swap them out for SS but it won't be as strong as the black oxide bolts. Zinc-dichromate will stay rust free but not for long. It adds unnecessary weight and doesn't offer any substantial benefit over the stock cover.

hard to believe springs would cause your problem with the steering wheel

Glenn everybody seems to think the same way you do . lowering sprimgs cannot cause the steering wheel to wiggle.I am feeling a slight shake in other parts of the car, but hard to tell most of the time. I will put the stock springs back on in a couple of weeks. And repost my findings then.
