Live in California, where we have 91 Octane max. Have supercharger and need high octane gas to insure against detonation. Have a good tune so Iam not too worried but would like some input on what good octane boosters are out there and if they are damaging too my engine, fuel lines and or pump. Also if there are any links with good info on this subject please supply.

The stuff does not work and if it does it ups octane very little, fractions of a point. I've read that when a claim is made that "this snake oil raises octane 4 points" what you actually get is .4 of a point, taking your 91 all the way up to 91.4 octane. Can you find unleaded race gas anywhere? If you can get a few gallons of 100 mixed in with your 91. This will actually raise octane and cost less than the bottles of snake oil.

I was looking for info on this last week since my MX bike needs min 95 octane and all we can get in canada is 91 at most stations. This site has lots on octane boosters and other junk. Its a huge independent site too so im sure its pretty reliable.

Torco makes a race fuel concentrate. I run this in my 69 camaro when I run out of race fuel. No detonation....and I have a 412 small block with close to 13:1 compression. Don't get me wrong......she runs better on 110, but runs fine with this stuff.

As far as I understand it, it takes 10 points to increase 1 point of octane. The stuff you can buy at walmart is a waste of money. Being stuck with 91 octane gasahol here in California you are better off just tuning to it.

Some years ago before gas went past the $2/gal mark, you could get 100 octane at sears point and some gas stations, 76 or unical I think. But even then it was $4/gallon, bet it's $8.00 now.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>I have noticed that E85 fuels are popping up at the local gas stations here in Charlotte, and seems like they are spreading to major metro areas. E85 is 85% ethanol (alcohol), and can be used in alternative fuel vehicles. Coicidentally, my 05 Titan truck is E85 compliant, and I use the stuff all the time....and no my exhuast smells like beer.

It's a about 10 cents cheaper than 87 octane unleaded, but has an octane rating of about 100.

Anyways, ethanol can also be used as an octane booster. It's not as effective as thing like Toluene, but its MUCH cheaper. Most experts recommend no more than 10-20% ethanol with normal gasoline engines, as they can eat at o-rings, lines, etc. E85 compliant cars have been designed to tolerate the higher alcohol ratings without damage to fuel system.

So if we add 4 gallons of E85 to a tank of 93 octane, you will end up with roughly 95-96octane fuel, and it doesnt cost you anything more. It's actually cheaper than super unleaded, so you save a few bucks in the process.

FORMULA 4
Methanol or Ethanol
R+M/2...101
Cost...$0.60 - $1.75/gal
Mixtures with 92 Octane Premium
10%...94.3 Octane (Methanol)
10%...94.7 Octane (Ethanol)
20%...Not Recommended
Notes: Methanol is wood alcohol. Ethanol is grain alcohol and found in Gasohol in 10% ratios. Both alcohols are mildly corrosive and will eat gas tank linings, rubber and aluminum if used in excessive ratios. Main ingredient in "Gas Dryers", combines with water.
Another alterative is avaition gas which is around 110 octane. Race car tracks and small airports sell this.

(from VP)
StreetBlaze 100 is oxygenated with ethanol. Environmentally friendly, it meets California Air Resource Board (CARB) requirements and is street legal throughout the U.S. Generates substantial power increases over premium grade 92 octane unleaded gasoline.
