Nitrous! Anyone spraying?
I have been searching around for mods lately and came across nitrous, one thing that I have never brought into thought. I haven't really noticed many with nitrous in their sigs, but is anyone out there running it? How do you like it? What is it like?

I ran it for awhile. All I have to say is stay away from Zex and get it tuned professionally on a dyno. If you have any technical questions, feel free to ask. I pretty much saw it all during the time I ran nitrous.

I had a 125 shot on a 2001 Silverado with a 5.3L. The nitrous is like a supercharger in a bottle and it shaved 1.3 seconds off a 4800 lbs truck! The main draw back for me was I had to drive around everyday with a nitrous tune, so in a N/A race I was at a disadvantage (not a big one though, I never had a problem with bolton Hemi trucks). If you get a bottle opener, you will never have to open the trunk to open your bottle. Also With the SCT or Predator you can get a dyno tune to spray on and then get a tune to run N/A (when you have no go go juice). Just DON'T spray on a N/A tune. I paid $40 a fill, you would have to fill the bottle 125 times to = a S/C cost. My 125 shot the bottle gave about 8-10 passes at the 1/4 mile track. Hope this helps some.

Don't know why Bullitt995 doesn't recommend Zex but I know several people including reputable tuners that run the Zex 100 shot on these cars, without problems. And also running a tune that works on both the street and on the spray- no need to change tunes whenever you feel like spraying. Anything over the 100 shot requires the tune change though.

A/F graphs on Zex look like a parkinsons patient trying to draw a straight line across a page. Because it's constantly trying to mess with the nitrous/fuel mixture you never can get a solid tune. Also because everything is jammed into one little box, it makes it impossible to upgrade your system or run external safety devices. It can be done but you have to ghetto rig the hell out of it. Plus the pea sized solenoids in the Zex kit put out some pathetic flow numbers. The only positive to a Zex kit is that it's fool proof to install, but that's about it on the up side.
The only time I would recommend running zex is if you're running an import with a very low shot, say 50hp or something.

I run ZEX and have been spraying 75 for over a year. Just recently went up to 100. I do have seperate tunes for N/A and spray. The tune for the spray is mild, it has 7 degrees total timing taken out as I am very conservative with my car, almost to a fault. ZEX recommends 2 degrees for every 50 HP of spray. when I was spraying a 75 shot the tune for the spray and motor were the same, it worked well. Above 75 seperate tunes are needed if you don't want the car to be a dog out of the hole, due to the reduced timing. Here are my graphs. Because, of the tune I don't put down huge HP numbers 383, but the torque is 440ft lbs. Brent indicated we could get the numbers up, but since he knows I am conservative he recommended we leave it like it is. Adding more timing back in could have caused higher heat and preasure and possibly lead to melted spark plugs. Yes, I run the HT0's. My A/F is not what I would call a jagged line except at the moment the spray kicks in. Then it slowly goes a little rich. I have the ZEX Traction Control switch which reads the RPM and is set to not spray below 3,200 RPM. I also have it set to not spray in 1st gear. It will also cut out above whatever RPM I program it for. So if I miss a shift it won't spray when the rev limiter kicks in. I like my system, it has served me well so far. As I am sure you see there are lots of opinions on things like this on the site. I went with the ZEX for ease of install and it is recommended by a one of the best tuners outthere. This post is long, but I tried to answer all questions, give reasons as to why and answer detractors ahead of time.

I was told the only thing in the zex box was a fuel cut-off switch plus arming switch. BULLITT995 I'm looking at the NX plate kit 100 shot.Do you have any heads up,advice for running this. Thanks

I have the Zex kit and have not had any problems with it. Yes the install was as simple as you could get. My tuner said I needed to go one up on the fuel jet over what Zex called for and A/F is right on the money.
The one down side to the kit is the piece of S#!T warming blanket which comes in the racer pack. I would not have bought it if I had known it was so lousy.
Overall I'm happy with the Zex kit. Just my .02 worth
