The Next Anti-Trumpet Experiment

I was talking to Vegasjay (Justin) tonight, and he was telling me that he's running JBA LTs, o/r H-pipe and Magnapacks, and likes the sound, and doesn't really hear the trumpeting. I'm presently running the Magnaflows, which took care of the trumpets, but they aren't loud enough for me. So, since I'm experimenting with the sound on my car, I've decided to try a set of Magnapacks next. Does anyone know of a used set for sale?

As we were sitting at the red light, I dropped the shifter into 1st and then gave him a little space as we rolled through the intersection. Then, I stomped on the loud pedal for a couple seconds. He heard and saw me behind him. I saw his eyes grow big in his mirror, as my car lunged at his (1st gear and 4.10s are such a rush!). Then he turned off the street into a residential area, with his fart can tucked between his wheels. ahahah

And I never even had to go faster than 20mph for him to run away.
Used Magnapacks anyone?

I'd sell my magnapaks to you if I could score a set of Borla's or FRPP for a decent price.

I think you're making the right choice Don...imo the Magnapacks are the best sounding mufflers on the market...smooth, deep quality sound. Hopefully it will take care of the trumpeting. I am having JBA Longtube headers and Catted Hpipe installed in the next 7 days..will give feedback on that shortly.

Don have you thought about borlastingers. My buddy has them on his car and it sound's amazing[/quote]
What's the rest of his exhaust components?

Don, today I put the stock mufflers back on my car with the off road H. The trumpeting is there. much quieter, but in proportion to the rest. The stock mufflers do nothing to kill the trumpets, except make the whole thing quiet. It does sound like a 281 in a late 60s mustang now though..... but it is too quiet for me. I am seriously thinking of welding in Flowmaster 10 series, but I am short on cash and will have to live with this until payday.

That's interesting, Jordan. I'll have to listen closely to the Magnaflows tomorrow and see if I can detect any faint trumpets or not. I haven't heard them, but maybe it's just because it's so much quieter than the LMs I can't.

yeah listen, because I think they are there... faint, but they are there....
I think any lack of cats causes it. I want to get the flowmaster 10 series, but I am afraid of cutting and welding incase I dont like it, and it trumpets too much.

As long as I can't hear it, then it's OK... I guess.
And it seems to be the lack of stock cats. I have hi-flow cats on mine, and they don't help.

I've thought about having an exhaust shop weld in resonators. I still am not 100% sure what trumpeting is, but if sounds like an old pickup, I have it a bit. This 3V engine is a pain in the butt exhaust wise.

Jason, with the Magnaflows, you probably wouldn't hear it much (if any). I don't anyway.
Tony, you want some LMs in exchange for your Borla/FRPPs??

appologies in advance for getting off topic... I'm looking at the JBA set-up as well. I'm wondering which (if any) ceramic coating to get. The silver are rated as mild to severe duty and can be picked up for $700 at rpmoutlet, which is about $400 better than anywhere else I've found. The titamium are rated extreme duty and are not available at rpmoutlet, but every other vendor has them at the same price as their silver - about $1100. The titanium is supposed to have better corrosive protection, and it sounds way cooler to say <deep voice> "Titanium", but for street and strip silver is probably more than adequate, yes?

I went with the Titanium ones because I found them on ebay for $767.00. I haven't seen them since at that price.
I saw the silver ones and in all honesty they look nicer than the titanium ones. Keep in mind that it's recommended you replace the engine mounts with the Steeda units to prevent the headers from knocking against the frame during cornering and hard launches.
I kept my stock mufflers on for the time being.
