Ford should make their heat sheilds available separate. Both the current one from Ford Racing and this one are better looking and better fitting than anything I have seen out there.

I bet the S-bend is there to reduce NVH. My Crown Vic came with a horribly small and bent tube, and I switched to a much larger and straighter tube. I noticed no change in performance, but the engine sounded much louder. Notice how the stock axle-backs require air to bend and move through various baffles and tubes, and how aftermarket axle-backs like the Magnaflows (straight through) don't yield any significant gains in performance on a relatively stock engine. My guess is that you will experience bigger gains from reducing these "restrictions" on engines that can rev high enough to take advantage of this extra flow.

The old Ford Racing CAI

I've got this on my car. The old kit used the stock rubber elbow. Junk.

So I switched it out for the Steeda elbow. Much better.

That Heat shield is very nice I like how they made it. Would be nice to see something like that for the other aftermarket CAI.

40 hp with a CAI and headers? That sounds like a lot to me. Can you buy just the CAI as shown, or do you have to buy the headers also?

Well if you figure 25HP for the CAI/Tune then the headers are giving about 15Hp so it actually sounds about right maybe even a little on the low side from some of the dyno tests I have seen in the various Mags/.

So where's the filter getting it's outside air from ? I really can't tell from the picture quality very well.

I do however like the OEM quality fit and finish, and may consider upgrading. Providing it will fit my current Steeda intake tube.

The 40 hp increase was for the GT500, that part number and desciption is not for a GT, it says it is for the SVT so it's not the same CAI as the one in the pictures. It's the other one for the GT500, that has been available for some time now.

The S-bend is actually better than a single 90-degree turn, so they probably got the air flow straighter by using an s-bend than an elbow like so many of the aftermarket companies use. The standard rubber intake is also in the form of an s-bend.

They would not use that hard to make s-bend and come up with a facy air box to fit it, if it reduced airflow.

So in other words, it's like a mini ram air set up..

Does shorty headers deepen the sound? I have the GTA's already.

Anyone know whos selling this?
Mom and Pop vender's? The people that make these tunes for the most part are skilled professionals. Especially the ones with their own dynos. A dyno does not run cheap, and your average mom and pop vender probably does not have their own dynos. So to call people like Doug, Tillman, etc. Mom and Pop is pretty much an insult. These guys contribute tons and tons of helpful information to this board and other boards alike, and these guys have my whole hearted respect. If it was not for these guys, who deal with their customers with a 1 on 1 basis most of the time if needed, tons of us on this board would not still be driving with the smile we drive our mustangs with today! So lay off them troll, these "Mom and Pop" Venders deserve a ton of respect for what they do.

Isnt the shortest distance between 2 points a straight line? The S bend would lengthen the distance the air must travel to reach the engine? Wouldnt the more straight through design be more effecient? Probably not by much though? He is not pimping his design, he is just presenting an affordable alternative to the good people of this board. The skill and craftsmenship of his design is very nice. Why should you come on here and bash on him just because you dont like what he is offering? Bashing the distributers on this board is the definition of a troll to me if I have ever seen one.

My car does not ping. My car runs excellent with Doug's tune. And the best thing is I know if my car pings and I have a question about it, Doug will be there to help me figure out a 1 on 1 solution. I am sure he has done the same for alot of people on the board?

I doubt it would be considered radical... I dont see any engine damage happening from it...

Well thats basically how a true ram air system works... its not directly into the intake, but very close to it...

Its not like these vendors hijack peoples cars and throw boltons onto the car and then hold them hostage....Paying customers buy products after doing research on how to attain thier personal goals, and make thier decisions based on thier collected data. If a mustang owner chooses to modify thier car..they understand the risks involved. If you want to stick to factory stuff, thats your choice if you believe they know whats best for the car...which is in fact reasonable logic.....the aftermarket has just been around so long, it seems people these days know what they are doing....ask many of thier satisfied customers on this board.... People are free to do to to thier cars as they please....you included...please dont pick on people for having different opinions.
