Forgive me if this is a repeat topic. You have every right to smack me in the head if it is.

Anyway I want to know if a tune is necessary if I only want to install an x-pipe/h-pipe and axleback exhaust? What have your experiences been like, such as HP/TQ gains and were they with or without a tune? Also what brands of catbacks/axlebacks have been installed and what are your impressions. I am thinking about JBA or Bassani. Any input?

There is actually a tuning forum for both V6 and V8 mustangs at the top of the main 2005 forum page. You might find some more detailed information there. Actually, this thread will probably get moved there. Generally though, at least with the '05, changing the exhaust is not going to increase your HP too much. It is mostly for sound, unless you are doing some really expensive mods. The best bang for the buck is a cold air intake, remove the HC trap, add underdrive pullys and tune the car for the desired octane rating.

With the '05, from what I have read, any mod will require a tune to see proper gains.

I know Magnaflow designed their x-pipe and catback to not require a tune.

Yeah I heard about that (read about it rather). I want a deeper musclecar sound though. I am just wondering if anyone else has bought a bassani or JBA and not had a tune. I am curious about the results people have had!

Jeff - when I ordered my Magnaflow X-pipe several weeks ago (have yet to get around to installing it) I did call Magnaflow directly and spoke with Brent (very helpful gentleman by the way). Brent had said they were getting up to 19rwhp w/o a tune but figured they would work better with a tune and was going to have Steeda IIRC dyno a set and see what they could do with a tune.

I'm going to call Brent back and see what results they have had (if any yet) and I'll post findings.

You dont need a tune, because there is very little hp benefit. I have tested the Flowmasters, Mangnapacks, Magnaflows. Now if you get CompCats and/or an x-pipe you should get tunes. The X-Pipe will change your power band and some of the A/F .

it does change it a bit, but it doesn't require a tune. however, according to the guy that tunes most of our 05's down here, andre, you could benefit from getting one. it'll still run w/o a tune if that's what you're asking. no danger of hurting anything.

We saw 19rwhp with catback and X pipe at Magnaflow....

In fact in the latest issue of 5.0 there is a nice 6 page article where we picked up about 10rwhp with just the catback

We suprised the folks at 5.0 who did not expect an exhaust to do much

We just got done retesting an 05 GT here, and the A/F ratio was definitely still acceptable......

So a catted X pipe should not give you any problems with out a tune

Thanks
Brent
