The new brakes

I took part in my first road race event last May. Prior to that I changed my rotors to blank AutoZone's along with some AZ Duralast Gold Cmax or whatever it is they are. I had ordered Hawk HP + pads, but my 2 day shipping turned into 4 day shipping so they didn't arrive in time. Instead I had to go with some AutoZone Duralast gold pads. Needless to say, they didn't work. 3 laps and my foot would be going to the floor with fade, so I decided to dive head first.

Hawk HP +
Powerslot slotted rotors
No name front stainless steel lines
StopTech ss rear lines
SuperBlue DOT4

I can safely say i'm MUCH happier with this setup. I took the car on the track this past weekend and did 7 laps on the short course with some hard braking and never had a bit of fade. It was worth every penny I spent. Originally I wanted a Brembo setup, but for the cost of just the Brembos I did all 4 corners and couldn't be happier. I tried to get them to fade to see where the breaking point was, but they just want more! I had been thinking previously I was going to have to push for more aggressive brake cooling since it is a heavy car on a smaller track, but that doesn't seem to be the case, though I do plan on following through with more brake cooling.

I do not suggest these pads for anyone who isn't going to track the car, or anyone who likes quiet brakes. These pads will make noise, period. I'd suggest Hawk Ceramic for those of you wanting quiet brakes. They also produce quite a bit less brake dust. My wheels haven't been clean since I put the new brakes on. The rotors are fantastic. To be perfectly honest though, I wouldn't do ss lines unless I were going to track the car, nor would I use SuperBlue. I had a new can laying around in the shop, so I used it, though I had the system flushed with a full quart of Valvoline first.

In my opinion, this is one of the better braking setups for someone who wants a much better stopping power, but someone who also has a budget in mind. Since the next official event isn't until the end of October, I took my time piecing the system together and couldn't be happier I did.

I didn't know they let women drive on the track. Remember the gas is on the right.

They can't tell with the helmet on and the windows up. I'm sure the purple stripes don't help, but then again boys are wearing their sisters' pants these days...

That's no lie.

I'd love to see your car out on the track.
