Hey all, I have never used a computer mod on a car, so I have some basic questions. I heard the SCT Xcalibrator can give you an additional 15-20 rwhp on top of the stock configuration. Does this mean that you need do nothing else with the car other than flash the computer? If so, what is the drawback other than the money spent on the tuner? Do you have to change the octane of gas you use? How hard is it to return the program to its original state?

That is correct....depending on the tune that you have in the unit. You may only have to change fuel if that is what you're tune specifys. The unit stores the "Factory" tune for restoration if required.

My dealer said that doing things with the chip like this would very possibly void my warrenty. If you have the factory setting saved and something does happen can you switch it back to factory without them giving you a hard time?

This has been discussed and the concensus is , once you have flashed, it is detectable by a tech ...so it would be up to the circumstance and dealer tech as to warranty coverage. I went with the Steeda basically because of their relationship with FOMOCO, and the tune I have from them is what they use in their "Q" car, which they warranty.

Not really. The service manager (also my neighbour) at FORD where I bought my car said the only way they can tell if you "flashed" the computer is if you told the tech.

Also, you can still run regular gas. When you order the tune they will email you with questions. I told them to calibrate it for Octane 87 and 91. That way I can just flash it with what I am using. Keep in mind though, the car was only designed for Octane 87. Tons of posts on this and combustion problems if you use higher octane.

So John - then you have 2 different tunes in your SCTXcalibrator.....for some reason I thought it only had one plus it would store the stock settings? That's good news if it will hold multiple tunes then you could really switch your state of tune easily!

The literature I have read on the Steeda website says they will actually hold 3 custom tunes plus the stock tune.

Yes John, in my case I specified the Premium fuel tune, also my second tune has the CAI calibrated in it so I will flash that when I get that installed. Hopefully I won't have to deal with the "He said, He said" flash question, but I'm sure it will come up on somebodys car.

Took two minutes to store factory program and one minute to flash new program. Monkeys could do this... Responsiveness is much better. Going to dyno shop next month with CAI to fine tune the car...
