Need help using S&B Filter Revitalizer

I purchased this S&B Filter Revitalizer for my JLT CAI air filter which is rather dirty right now.

The instructions say that I should spray the cleaner fluid onto the filter then hose it off.

It then says I should apply the oil but it didn't say how long I should wait after I washed it. Do I apply the oil to the wet filter or do I have to wait until it dries?

After appplying the oil, how long should I wait until I reinstall the filter and drive?

You should let the filter dry completely before applying the oil. Let it stand out in the sun for an afternoon... that should do it. And DO NOT soak the filter with oil either, just give it a light coat all around the filter and then re-install.

When you rinse out the cleaner, let your water flow from the inside of the filter to the outside so any dirt is pushed back out, not driven further in. You don't want to have the water flowing too strongly. After the element is dry you want to make sure, as Tony says, to put on a light coat of oil. But, make sure you cover the whole surface of the element, down into all the grooves.

K&N's oil is tinted red so you can see what you covered. I like to let the oil settle in for a little while before putting the filter back, maybe 10-15 min. I just did the K&N in our family car and the filter in my GT's CAI. Don't know what the brand, might have been an S&B, but the K&N kit seemed to work just fine.

For all my cars with washable filters, I always have a spare on hand and rotate them. It is a 24 hour process to wash them usually.

For the filter that came with the C&L (S&B), I bought their kit and it comes with a precision applicator and the cleaner and oil.

Spray the filter down with cleaner, let it sit for 10 minutes, rinse it gently from the clean side to the dirty side. Repeat the cleaning process above.

Put the filter in a warm spot and let it dry overnight. The proper amount of oil is 2 refills of the applicator. Place one drop on each pleat tip where it meets the rubber. Then place a line of oil along each pleat peak. Let the oil wick, and touch up the white spots as needed.

I purchased the S&B revitalizer kit from eBay and mine did not have an applicator

So I got to phone S&B on monday and ask them to mail me an applicator - what a total PITA.

Perhaps I should just go buy a K&N cleaning kit - this just sucks.

+1

I also have a spare filter. After cleaning I always wait at least 1 day before i re oil. And again this cannot be stressed enoiugh. A very light coat of oil is all that is needed.
