Unfortunately, I was under the impression that on these cars, you have to have a tune to use a CAI, or it would actually run worse. It's not the CAI I would worry about voiding the warranty as much as the required tune. I would make sure to ask the dealer about that.

 

I did............no problem at all. I have bought 8 cars here in the past 10 years and I know the service Manager well. PLUS I will get it in writting.

I wondered about this too. Does anyone know for sure whether the CAI will really improve ... or possibly degraded performance? This has probably been discussed before so sorry if it's a repeat question. Thanks!

 

It will make the engine run lean, you could damage it. My suggestion is buy either the Steeda CAI or the JLT (JLT claims that metal will absorb heat a lot more than the plastic they are using). I bought a JLT, it should be coming, and recently they added the heat shield, so the filter will not stink that much hot air.

Installing a CAI will indeed make the engine run leaner than the ideal 14:1 air/fuel ratio, but it will not hurt your engine. It will just run leaner than what you want it to run for optimum performance. But I would definitely get a programmer when you get the CAI. Especially if your dealer is ok with it.

 

I'm a little surprised by all the mods people are making to their cars so early in the game. I'm all for personalization, but there really hasn't been much time to perfect and manufacture performance parts for the new engine configuration. A lot of the standard mods made to the previous generation of Mustangs seem to either do nothing significant to improve performance or actually make it worse from what I have read...

 

Maybe you could surprise us with your decision!

Pony Girl, When you do talk to him, please let him know he may be getting another customer if these mod items are true. What dealership ponygirl? If you dont mind what is the service mgr. name. I will definitely be talking to that dealership if not to far away. I got mine at mcmahon and they seem to be the opposite of yours.

 

I'm also curious as to who you are referring to. Doesn't make much sense to make a comment directed at someone but not say who that someone is.

 

I thought if you unplugged the battery for 10 minutes, the computer would have to relearn everything and could compensate.

Granted a tune would produce even more power, but shouldn't the computer be able to work it out. If not, I'll be running lean for 8 months out of the year, when mother nature provides the CAI.

 

I'm a little surprised at your statement, considering you have absolutely no facts to back it up. Mods like exhaust, intakes, pulleys, etc... are mods that would work with any engine. The 3v is not a rocket engine here, and it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to modify it and how to do it right. The 2005 Mustang pre-production (identical engines and drivetrains of the production ones we now drive) were around almost two years ago. There has been plenty of time to figure out what is needed to mod this car.

And as far as what you have read about mods improving the performance of Mustangs, I think you may need to check your sources. Some mods work better than others, but the proof is out there. The dyno results and time trials are all out there that show you can get more performance out of the 3v V8. Don't be so pessimistic here.

 

Gashaus I dont know what you have been reading, but there is much to be modded, with good performance gains, as acadian spoke of this engine is not new, and there are plenty of mods you can do to get performance, and most of these companies have been working hand in hand with ford, to get these products up to par/ for example the sema shows, ford got together with all those companies and gave them all the info they needed to produce high horse power/beautiful body kits, and I am sure gave them each a few mustangs to work with. They have all the specs etc. that ford has given them to make these mods, easy, and cost effective/horsepower. Good luck with all your mods gashaus. LOL

 

Read/Search the GT Performance Subforum. There's about 57 threads w/ a lot of good info on the CAI's and Pictures!

JLT and C&L seem to be the most popular two. I know you want chrome, the C&L one might interest you, but the JLT one can be ordered in body color! ie, Screamin' Yellow!

And don't forget the tune, that's what made me back off from buying one, that seems to be the most expensive and difficult part - and it's necessary to keep from getting a CEL.
