My 2nd Trip to the Track
I will be at Sacramento Raceway tomorrow for Friday night drags. I know a few of you have already told me to let ya know when I will be going back so this is YOUR WARNING. I'll let ya all know if I improve upon my old best time.

Okay, so I didnt make it to the track that Friday cause my friend was slugging to get ready in time to be my company for the long drive and race day. I put off getting back to the drags till tonight's bracket racing.
The temperatures were great for racing today at about 82* with humidity @ 95% so I already knew I was going to run better than the 95* I ran in last time.
I dropped my tire pressure to 28psi and held the brakes till just before the breaking point at 2200. I cut a .519 reaction time but I really didnt worry about what I was going to cut so I took it easy for my first trip down the 1320 for the day.
The car is pretty consistant with a 2.07-2.1 60 foot time and I did it once again with a 2.105 even after adding the LCAs into the mix. I didnt expect them to do any better with my launch but this time out I had ZERO wheelhop and my other marker times improved across the board. I dropped 3/10th of a second by removing the front swaybar and passenger seat and adding the TB spacer and LCAs and running in cooler temps.
I ran a N/A best of 13.462 @ 104.015 on that run and I backed it up with a 13.478 @ 103.534. I cut a 2.085 short time that run too.
My 3rd run for the evening was the first of 3 nitrous trips of my 6 total runs for the entire evening. The car loved the nitrous today and I knew it was going to run faster than last time just by looking at my earlier runs.
I improved my 4th marker by a bit more than 2/10th but after that the engine didnt like 4th gear under the spray and dropped my power and held the RPM no higher than 4000. I did run a best of 12.823 @ 97.866 as I pretty much coasted the rest of the way after the 4th marker. Every other gear ran smoothly and very quickly but something was up just after it shifted into 4th. The next 2 trips down the track resulted in the same power loss and the last N/A run confirmed that it was something to do with the nitrous usage.
I still havent dyno tuned either combo for the most power and I know the torque converter doesnt like being run hard like that.
What do you guys think may be the problem here? Im thinking that a proper tune for the vehicle will remove that issue and free up more hp and torque throughout the entire rpm range, especially my low end right off my launch.
I was cut in the first run of brackets (4th run for the night) after dialing in @ 12.65 because it looked like I could come very close to that if my top end didnt run like crap again. The operator in the tower read my dial time as 12.05 instead of what it really was so I got screwed against an SUV running 16.9 or so with a dial time of 16.4. It was an "Oh well" type of moment and off to Fun Drags for the remainder of the evening.
I am happy with my new times and speeds but I have a bit of work to do before I can go back.
My best reaction time for the evening was a .198 btw.

Nice times...I haven't been at the raceway since high school (8 years ago..haha). I am moving back to the Sac area in 2 weeks and I just picked up my GT last month. I plan to make it to the track soon, so I'll shoot you a PM when I go. I'm basically a rookie, so maybe I could pick up some pointers...
No clue as to the top end issues. Sorry. But, I'm very interested in your 1/8-mi ETs/mph on the N/A runs. Care to share?
And keep practicing on the tree. The more you do it, the better you get!! I have been getting better and better all summer long. Over my most recent 31 runs (on three different trips to the track), my average RT is 0.067. It would be even lower, except I had a couple real stinkers mixed in there (I define a "stinker" as anything over 0.200). Without those two, my average is 0.055.

So, speaking to Automatic drivers specifically, it seems that you can get in the 13's with a few modest mods. Would you say thats true?
I'm not much of a racer, but I would like to do CAI, Tune, and Pulleys and be in the 13's with my Automatic.
Nitrous is out of my league, but throttle body, gears, all seem doable, I would eventually love to be in the 12's with an Automatic but don't know that I can really do it. I'm inexperienced.
PS it shows me as a V6 Member on the left, this is traumatizing me, how do I change that? :worship:
PPS what is a 5r55s Automatic, what does the 5r55s mean?
thx

No problem. My first time out with just a CAI & canned tune, I was in the 13.90s on a hot day with a headwind. With the mods listed below, I'm running low 8.80s in the 1/8 (which is about high 13.60s in the 1/4). I just got a new tune from BamaChips and I expect the numbers to go even lower. But, I won't be able to track test it for two more weeks.

The 5R55S is the 5-sp auto trans in the 05/06 Mustang GTs.

2.105 short time, 8.751 @ 81.080 in the 1/8.
I have done reaction skill tests over the last several years and have had a lot of experience with christmas tree games too but when it comes down to it I dont yet care enough to improve upon what I already get. I dont try too hard cause Im worrying about too many other things, mostly about the N2O.

I will be back at the track hitting my low 12s for sure without gears, on the stock tires and with the same 60 ft time.
I would be happy to help ya in person in any way that I can.

The Automatic Transmission is already good for a 13 second run off the dealership's lot in ideal circumstances. I could never imagine running a 14 second 1/4 in my car.
Basically with a Short Ram Intake with a safe but IMO crappy canned tune (for my purposes), Throttle Body Spacer and a Lower Control Arm upgrade got me my 13.4 Everything else that helped a bit was "free" since its fairly easy to remove a passenger seat, a front sway bar and a spare tire & jack.
I could also imagine getting a high 12 N/A run with the help of 4.10 gears and some Relocation Brackets for my LCAs. These cars react extremely well.
The 5R55S is the designation for the 05+ trans.

What size tires is your tuning setup for with the Nitrous? THis could be the problem when you are running both the nitrous and the slicks the throttle system could be seeing more Tq then it is accounting for and won't allow the engine to go any higher then a set RPM. This amount it is off on a n/a run could be within the acceptable limits and this is why it's doing fine off the spray.
Just a thought, you should get a tune atleast setup for your slicks or adjust the ones you have for them, I don't know on the Diablo if it makes the full adjustments in both the throttle and the speedo settings?
Thanks, Doug

The wierd thing is that 1st, 2nd and 3rd loved the nitrous this past trip and had no trouble reving to 6200 before shifting. It was only in 4th that I was rev limited to 4000 with power reduction to boot.
I am running on the stock street tires btw.

Update!
I got off the phone with my tuner and he is blaming it on the torque converter lock up, apparently 4th gear does the most work and thats why I see the power loss. My throttle body spacer probably helped in throwing me over the threshold of lockup due to too much power for my current tune for the auto.
At least I had the right idea.
