Why would I be offended ? I think you misread part of my post, as I clearly stated that on a supercharged engine that I wouldn't recommend running 4:10 gears on a daily driver used strictly as a street cruiser..

Therefore I agreed with your original post and also agree that on a slightly modified Mustang that upgrading to 4:10 gears is a huge improvement, but when it comes to more serious mods such as Forced Induction, running a lower ratio gear such as 4:10's aren't necessary and considered as overkill for a daily driven, street cruiser and like yourself, my opinion is also based from everyday driving which does significantly effect my fuel mileage, especially on the highway..

I mean don't me wrong, as I only take my car out on the highway 2-3 times per week during car cruise season.. The rest of the time, is driven locally.

My RPM's at 60MPH is around 2100-2200 and at 70-80MPH they go up to 2500-3000 RPM.. So I don't know if the 4:10's are mostly responsible for the fuel mileage or if it's the Saleen VI blower or perhaps both

Its the gears, my 2001 Bullitt with only an intake, tune, 4:10 gears and exhaust was getting about 13mpg shifting to 1st, 3rd, and 5th.

Its not that I misread, just wanted to make sure this didn't turn into a bash session Anyways, pretty sure we have drove this topic into the ground. In summary:
Jack has already ordered the gears and their going to be bada**, just stay within a 30 mile radius of a gas station and you'll be set.

Nothing is being taken as a bash session here.. As far as I'm concerned everyone who's contributed to this thread have provided both positive and useful info regarding both the advantages and disadvantages of running a low gear ratio.. Like yourself, I'm contributing to this thread to provide support and feedback for Jack..

It's a fun ride but not for the feint of heart. It can get away from you in with an instant if you lose concentration when your into the throttle.

Hey M90,

I'm changing to the 4.10 gear set from 3.55. I don't think I'll go further with engine mods than Hot Rod cams and long tube headers. I love the idea of forced induction but the 5 to 6 grand prices I see just make me howl.

If you love the idea of forced induction, but on a budget.. Look into Department of Boost, they offer starter kits around 2k that you can gradually upgrade to at your own pace and budget one component at a time..

Here's they're web link address below..

Then it appears I'll look into having my stock 3:55 gears put back in

I don't think you will regret it.

I am doing 4:10 on my 2012 automatic. Had 'em on my 2004 Mach1.

I don't think it's the gears so much as how you drive after you get the gears put in.

Other than opening her up on the highway once in awhile at no more than 75-80MPH, I pretty much drive conservatively on local roads between no more than 5 MPH above the posted speed limits..

All I know is on my previous 05 GT which was pretty much bone stock with the exception of Doug's 93 octane Bamachip's tune with Steeda 90mm cold air intake, 5 speed manual with stock 3:55 gears, I averaged around 23-24 MPG highway on Sunoco 93 ultra..

Since upgrading to my current 06 GT, I'm lucky to see 14-15MPG highway and at the most, up to 17MPH highway if I stay below 65MPH

OK, the 4.10 gears are in finally. A long test drive around town and out in the countryside provided no surprises.

I don't get any sense of the car being geared too short in first gear as some have reported, in fact the car does not feel all that much different in easy driving. I notice the difference mainly as more immediate throttle response and when you really boot it wide open the thing pulls like a demon especially in third gear.

Highway cruising at 70-75 obviously uses more revs but not so much as to be annoying. I think this mod will prove perfect for the way I use the car. I'll get out to my favorite stretch of mountain road tomorrow for a more thorough test.

Thanks to all you guys who posted your opinions and experience with gear ratio swaps.
