Thanks bullitman, as soon as I get it back from the paint place (having the rear end blacked out til Wednesday afternoon) I'll get in there and "magically" remove that trap. LOL Every little bit helps!
John, did you get the blackout done ? I want PICS !!!! BTW,. I got my pinstripping done, you will poo your pants this Saturday when we hook up at Horsepower Eng. I tried to get pics on the site, but camera cant grab the colors and keep them sharp.

I guess Steeda is just going with.. another low restriction filter. From what I've seen posted, removing the stock filter reduces HP, so what does going with a less restrictive filter do without reflashing? That's why I posted this thread in the beginning. Anyway, notice my mileage went down from 15.5 city to only to 13.8, this is only on one tank of gas so far, but I think there is something to this.

so you're saying your milege went down by putting in a less restrictive air filter? that doesn't sound right...i thought getting the car to 'breathe' better was helpful.

maybe not an improvent to the milege, but deffinatly not something that should take it down.

I don't understand it either, but that's what I am trying to find out. Removing the air box normally would not reduce hp either, but some say that's also happening.

You must mean prior to a reflash. I would somewhat agree that until you get flashed/re-pgrammed - you may have inconisstant results. Remember, your computer thinks it is still there

Believe the computer is compensating for the additional air flow by increasing the fuel ratio, if that's possible. My car still runs strong, so I don't think it has deteriorated performance wise.

hmmm...it seems like it would be best to get all the mods you want to do installed in a significant chunk, that way you only have run to the dyno once, instead of every time you add a bolt on.

Yeah, the rules are changing on us. Could be a costly mistake for anyone not realizing this.

Why dyno it everytime? I have made some modifications but I am only going to dyno it once, and that will only be if and when I get the SCT tune.

You need to re-tune that puppy after the install of mods. Yes the computer can compensate - but only so far. Once you see the SCT software when the tuner tunes the car - you will realize why :0

So do I really need to do anything right now? All I have done is removed the HC Trap and added the magnaflow cat-back with magnapaks. I have the MMR intake kit on order, should be here next week.

I have never had a car "tuned" before so I am a little hesitant. I would be pretty upset if the guy doing the work messed up my car.

I'm getting the impression that bolt on mods are not nearly as simple as they used to be. Withough a tune, it looks the ECU (which can't tell when parts have been swapped, modded, deleted, etc) will attempt to "correct" any changes in a/f ratio brought about by less restrictive exhuasts, intakes, better gas etc. The bottom line, without a re-flash, any HP gains from the mods will dissappear over time, if I'm following these posts correctly. See Roger's comments below....

Some observations on dyno testing intake/exhaust systems on OBDII machines:
- Desired WOT AFR is achieved by long term fuel trim at part throttle plus fixed fuel increase (O2 sensor is only accurate at 14.7 AFR).
- Factory tune at WOT is rich for cat con longevity.
- Any increase in airflow leans AFR.
- Most of the observed HP gain is the result of a leaner WOT AFR.
- After some normal driving (~100 miles), most of the observed HP gain will be trimmed out by the ECU.

This is the conclusion I've come to so far. The worst part IMO is that unsuspecting, people will shell out lots of hard earned for nada.

I have a definite improvement in MPG & HP from my 2 mods.

The poor mans air box & mufflers delete.

Be sure your resetting all the info on your computer after a refill.

I have replaced the mufflers and cat-backs, and removed the HC Trap. My MPG went from 18 to 23. After 2 tanks of gas I am now down to 21 mpg.

Dynojet 12-18, Baseline pulled 262.5 h.p. max and 280.7 Torque max, with hc trap removed.
SCT flashed for 87 octane 277 h.p. max, 297 torque max.
Increase of 14.5 rwhp, 16.3 rwt (Prox. 325 at the crank now)
