ok, I MILDLY ported and polished the TB on my 05 mustang, and the results were not good.

initially it ran and you could drive it, but it was in fail safe mode. would not rev over 4000 and would COMPLETELY lay down between shifts. I pulled the battery cables and tried re-flashing the program and it just got worse. now it will ONLY idle. no response whatsoever from throttle input.

I got a stock TB off a friend of mine who blew his motor the night before and it runs just great. WTF ford??

I went up to a local tuner and talked to him about it, they called SCT and SCT said I was screwed. it could only be fixed/tuned by them, NOT a tuner, and it would take 3-4 DAYS on the dyno.

how is porting the TB any different that putting on a differnt CAI?? I don't get it... GM drive by wire does NOT have this problem!

This is just one of those things that is still unchartered territory. I'm sure SCT would like to have it for 3-4 days so they can get a tune for a throttle body and remain ahead of Diablo. Diablo is having trouble tuning for a 90MM MAF. SCT has the tune for that already. It's just a matter of time for both companies to have tunes for every possible mod. I've heard of a guy that has ported heads and his car has been at Diablo for 60 days trying to tune it properly. I didn't personally see the car there, but this is what I've heard. These cars are new, the computers are new, and your the first one with a modified TB...before there was a tune figured out. I wouldn't blame it on Throttle by wire. You are just premature with the mod.

My first question, not that I doubt your mechanical abilities, but have you ever done any thing like this before??? Are you certain that the throttle body isn't damaged in any way??? Have made double and tripple sure that every thing is hooked back up correctly???

Having said that, it is a known fact that the computers in the 05 Stangs are extremely sensitive. Any changes to the air flow will throw off the computer. My first suggestion is to use a Preditor to check which fault codes have been set off then go from there.

The reason SCT is saying they would have to tune the car is that there is no "canned" tune avail at the moment for a ported throttle body. BBK makes a larger throttle body for the 05 Stangs so you may also want to give them a call.

Hope every thing works out.

What exactly happened to your buddies motor? How did he manage to blow it?

I'm glad to hear someone else did this first. I was thinking of just polishing up the intake path on mine being careful not to get into where the throttle blades are at because if you make the hole around them bigger you have to make them bigger to fill the gap.

Hmmm now if I bored them out and replaced the blades with bigger ones??? Man I'm glad I don't have access to a machine shop otherwise I'd really mess up my car lol

yes, I know what I'm doing under the hood. I would have asked the same thing though SCT is now changing their story somewhat. they said sometime around next week they will have a fix/tune for it.

he got a bad tune and it blew on the 2nd dyno pull. it was kinda his fault though, cause he didn't check it out, he just loaded it and ran.

and finally... wow, do I feel like an hiney now. one of the TB blades was just SLIGHTLY tweaked. it looked fine in the 'normal' position when the car was off, but if I push it back to the fully closed position it just barely caught on the side and wouldn't allow it to close all the way

thanks for the input guys.

Are you going to give it another try? Let us know. I did some work on my Taurus, and had to re-port the MAF sensor to read right, so I am sure this new Mustang is going to have problems.
