Magnapacks and California?
I am wondering as to if magnapacks are legal in California? The only mentions I see as to the legalities of magnapacks are on this page.
http://www.magnaflow.com/07techtips/faq/question09.asp
It says: “YES, all of our Cat-Back Exhaust Systems comply with most state and federal laws with the exception of the Magnapacks. (Please note, local laws may vary. Contact your local law enforcement for specific guidelines.)”
So if I understand this correctly magnapacks are legal in some places but not other? Or magnapacks are illegal all over and vanilla cat-backs are legal in some places?
Also What about JBA? and other companies? Is it best to just to ask local shops or what I'd rather stick with something legal, but what are the tickets like for this if you get caught in CA? Thanks.

The laws here are pretty harsh about that kind of stuff. I assume 95DB is the law here as well, or around it. I can't find any info, maybe I will ask some friends who I believe how ties to law enforcement before I go ahead and do anything.
I will either go with Magnaflow regulars JBA [if legal]. Unless something legal and good comes out soon. Most likely regular I will end up with magnaflows.
I'm sure this has been covered but I can't find it right now. The difference between regular magnaflows and magnpacks is just the sound right? Same gain [I believe it was 5 hp correct me if I'm wrong]? Thanks.
Also I would like to thank gnn60gt500. It's great having a rep here that can help. It's definitely pushing me towards going with magnaflow. I can already see if there are any problems down the road you guys are very friendly and willing to go that extra step for your customers.

Since I had both, regular magnaflows and now the magnapacks I can say that the magnapacks are a lot louder and have more drone noise around the 1900 rpm area. The regular magnaflows did have a deeper tone and were louder than the factory mufflers. If I was in an area that it was against the law to have the magnapacks I would definately put the regular magnaflows on. They look and sound great.

I have heard nothing short of flawless reviews from people on this site about magnaflows. So I will most likely get them. You have regular ones not magapacks correct holderca1?

Go here to see the Magnapacks installed on an '05 Mustang.

Was I correct about there is somewhere in the area of 5 HP gained from this? Or is this only for magnapacks? Or neither and I'm making things up.
And thanks for the link holderca1.
Between these laws and the tinting laws, I'm not going to be having much fun on adding on to this car.
There was a post where a 05 Mustang was not dynoed correctly and gained 5rwhp...basically they would not figure out the automatic....
There was also another post from someone with another automatic who figured out how to dyno the car and got 12rwhp from the cat back....
Basically the first guy could not get the car not to down shift so he did not floor it until after 4000RPM or something....which definitely messed up both the base line and post mod numbers-
The only difference between the two is sound. On a dyno they both made identical gains in hp and tq.
Thanks guys-
