Locking header bolts????
Locking header bolts????
ok guys,
when i get my exhaust stuff this week i wanna install it right away, but first i need to buy a set of locking header bolts. i dont wanna be trying to get into there and re-tightening the bolts later down the road.
i saw the FRPP ones on summitracing.com for $50
is that a good price?
who else sells them?
what are good brands?
i did a little searching on here and came up with nothing.
thanks in advance guys!

I bought the Stage 8 set off Ebay for like $45 bucks. The FRPP ones are probably made by someone like them would be my guess. And they are a good idea for peace of mind!!

I just ordered the Ford Racing set from Summit. Best deal I could find. I wanted to make sure that I had the correct size. Sometimes I don't trust e-bay for the details listed. Last thing I wanted was to be installing the headers and have bolts that don't fit.

Stage 8 part # 8906 definitely fits our cars...At least it did mine!!
At the expense of dating myself here. Way back when header gaskets were made of thick highly compressible cardboard or whatever that crap was, locking header bolts would have been great. The old style thick gaskets would compress and one needed to re-tighten the ****ed things about 7 times before they would stay tight.
When I installed my long tubes last year I looked at the stock gaskets and realized they would not compress and just used ordinary stainless steel hex head bolts.
Ran the car all season like that including two trips to the track with approx 7 runs each.
Checked the bolts quite a few times and I've never had to tighten them.
My humble opinion, you don't need them. Save your cash and your knuckles (locking bolts = PITA to install) for something you actually need.

funny cause my performance shop said that no body was having problems with the s197's having bolts coming out.... he was curious as to why i was buying them too
but for the added protection and knowing they wont come out later on down the road, i dont mind.
