I don't think the 05 brakes are so bad? Well maybe compared to my GSXR-600, but that's 400lbs and has 2 12in rotors and 2 4-pot calipers just on the front wheel.
The mustang brakes have certainly gotten better over the years, anybody drive a 87-93 5.0 with stock brakes? 11in rotors, single piston with drums out back.

Porterfield just completed testing and released Pads for the 05; no part numner yet, just calling them 05 Mustang Pads. Pricy but the R4-S compound makes great pads (Front-$179, Rear-$119). Porterfield make and rebadge for several "Race Distributors".

Any non-track pads out there? I remember reading (it might have even been in this thread) about a guy who said he could tell his "track" pads were worse than a good set of street pads because they never really got heated up unough. I do some "spirited" driving sometimes, but I'm sure I wouldn't be able to keep a set those pads hot enough to do their job.

Well they aren't bad compared to a car nearing two decades old, but compared to it's modern competition they aren't spectacular, or even that great.

I installed the Steeda lines last weekend. Nice build quality. Also flushed the brake system and put in Super Blue fluid. If you get the Steeda lines just make sure all the connections are tight. After I installed parts of lines were leaking. Just had to tighten them up and everything was fine.

Let me know how you like those pads. I read a little more about them and am concerned that they will not last on the track. My take on the R4-S is that they are a high performance street pad, which is meant for limited track use. I am going to email Performance Friction and see if they can get me some 01 or 03 compound pads. I also need to buy some Nitto NT-555RII's and some 9" Cobra rims for the track.

As big as the brakes are on the '05, I wouldn't think a big brake kit would be necessary unless maybe you're doing some road racing.
If you just wanted better braking ability / better feel then you could easily get there with some street performance pads, DOT4+ brake fluid, and steel braided brake lines.
