K&N vs. Mobil 1 oil filter...

Well I'm getting ready to put the car on the dyno in two weeks. I've also hit the 2,800 mile mark, and am going to switch over to Royal Purple fully synthetic motor oil. I've been running the standard Motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend with a Mobil 1 oil filter. I'm just trying to figure out if the K&N oil filter is worth the extra $7 or so, and is the filtration significantly better?

Thanks,
Brandon

the mobil 1 & the K&N are made by the same company. I believe the only difference is the nut on the K&N and I think it flows a little better. I run the Mobil 1

If I recall correctly when I researched this very issue three years ago, the Mobile 1 filtered out smaller particles than the K&N. Just for extra insurance I also run the largest "FilterMag" they sell for this size filter.

Pep Boys has deals a lot for the Mobile oil filters. I get 5 qts of oil and a mobile 1 filter for $29. Since my wife's and my dailer driver take a filter cartridge, I pick up an oil filter for my pony when I buy oil for the DDs. So I stocked up and got them for free (basically after rebate).

I remember seeing research and a long testing report by a third party that said the Mobile 1 filter is very good.

The Motorcraft filter is superior imho...
Just look inside the darned things. Motorcraft has a functioning anti-backflow valve. (keep the filter oiled)
I use the Motorcraft Filter and a Big **** Filter Mag as well. You'd be suprised what a filter mag will capture. (messy to look at, but worth the effort for piece of mind).

Just stick with the Motorcraft filter. It is very high quality, and a bargain too. Under $4.

I prefer the Mobil 1 Extended Service filter (along with the extended service oil). I do not run them as long a s Mobil claims they can, but I do regularly change them at 3000 to 4000 mile intervals and the oil to 12,000 or 12 months, which ever comes first.

Mobil1 oil & filter here, money is not an issue for me when it comes to fluids that get fed into my car! Every tank of gas my car has ever had has been 93, I don't care what it cost, I want to get the most enjoyment out of my car as possible. I love smoking hybrids and compacts!

There's only one brand of FL-820-S and it is Motorcraft. I change them at 6000-7000 miles. It's the OEM approved oil filter for nearly every 4.6/5.4 2V/3V/4V V8 engine.
