Hi all,
I know the topic of the K&N aircharger system has been a hot topic lately, but I had to write this thread. Today I drove to PA to CJ PONY PARTS to get the air charger system installed, had the FLOWS done there two weeks earlier. I had a long drive back to Jersey and had plenty of time to test the two mods. My GT hauls hiney and that is putting it lightly. The throttle response that I get with this CAI is unbelievable.

I mean lightly stepping on the gas the thing moves and I mean quick, real quick and with the FLOWS attatched, the car is screaming now. I could not be more pleased with these two mods and the reason I am writing this thread is to really encourage those with out mods to their 05's to try them. You will not be disappointed. I am not saying that this is the best set up, but it is great for me.

The engine light did not come on with either mod installation. The CAI does not need a tune, but with the fun I had today, I am getting one and a throttle body. Just don't hope the 20's that will be here Tuesday don't slow me down that much.

Searioulsy the set up is awsome, but that is only my opinion.

i will soon be with you on the two setup's, I've had my flows on for 2 weeks now and I will be installing my K&N CAI on Tuesday when I get my car back, I went to install it yesterday but I made a boo boo. I posted it on the forum of what I did. I broke a valve cover bolt that was needed to mount the holding bracket for the K&N CAI, so I am getting a new bolt on tuesday, along with the Popping noise TSB fixed. Can't wait to get this K&N on!

I have a K&N CAI on order and flows will be in next month so this is good news. Did you keep the HC trap in or out?

When they installed the unit, did they put the stock HC Trap into it. Just curious, some folks are saying they are leaving them out with no CAI occuring.

I'll have my K&N setup on Tuesday and that will go along with my SLP Loudmouth system, I can't wait. I'm interested in the hydrocarbon trap issue myself..... I might get the system dynoed, I found a place for $65 an hour just for pulls, we'll see how this week goes.

Maverick sorry to hear about the valve cover bolt. I'm not brave enough to install anything, just not confident with that type of thing. I see you live in Jersey, I'll see you out there.

As for the Hydrocarbon trap, I did not see it in the old air box, so I assume it is in the system.

Mustang 69-05, I wish I new a place that do tune pulls for $65.00. I called Crazy Horse racing here in South Amboy and they said they do tunes for $600.00.

Tom, try this web site to get you started. www.brothersperformance.com I got the aircharger kit from them for 199.99 and that is the cheapest I have seen it anywhere. For the Flowmasters, this is kind of tricky. Brothers on line is selling the kit for 299.99 so I had CJ PONY PARTS match the price to get them intalled quicker. However in the new 5.0 mustang and superfords issue that is out now it is advertised in the Brothers Performance page for 259.99, so I would call them to get that price that is the cheapest I have seen those as well.
The mod numbers are: K&N63-2565 and FLO17410.

Next mod to come TRU-X High flow catalytic converter seen it on the rpmoutlet.com for 419.95 and that is the cheapest I have seen it.

Check this out. My wife took the car today (which I hate) and I called her on the way to work just to check up on her. I told her the car was a lot quicker now so be careful. So she says, is it me or is this car LOUD??? I said yes it is a LITTLE (alot louder actually) louder..... HAHAHAHA, if she only had a clue about these things.

Torrence, the dyno time is just to pull hp and torque. A tune session my buddy said was like $150 including one tune. Still not a bad price. So no trap at all, huh.... No CEL.... Interesting, I wonder why K&N wants you to put it back in then? Maybe just a enviromental systems issue to get it to pass carb specs???

I think he's saying that the HC trap is installed in the K&N CAI because he can't find it in the old intake system. I'm still undecided if I'm going to install it or not. I'm just scared of running too lean and causing engine damage over time.

What about the newer cars that are coming without the HC trap installed? I wonder what K&N has to say about that. I would think they have the same tune from the factory.

I think that I would put the hydro trap in if you live in California! You don't have to worry about smog right now but you will.

I haven't seen any throttle bodies for the 05. Where are you getting one, and what are the dynoed gains?

Hey just to let you all know, there is a thread in here that is saying that some mustangs came without the HC, now I'm wondering if it's in the aircharger system at all, since I never checked the air box to begin with.

I have seen a bbk throttle body in the brothers performance ad in 5.0, but there was no price, it said to call, so that is what I will do tomorrow. Now on rpmoutlet.com there is the same bbk throttle body for a price of $299.99 it is said to give an additional 8hp.

Why do all the other cai kits need a tune to prevent a cel light, but the k&n don't. What is so different, if they flow the same amount of air as the others to get the h.p. gain, then why doesn't the light come on ?????

I was told its because the MAF is placed in a different location with all CAI's except the K&N and that throws off the reading but who knows.

Put the K&N in yesterday. Process went smoothly. Thanks to this site, picked up some tips which helped the install.
For now, I put the HC trap in. Sounds louder and IMO felt it more responsive in 3rd and 4th. Down the road will pull the trap, tune for 93 but will leave for now.

Brother's performance is awesome!

I checked their website yesterday, and the K&N was listed for $269. I was seriously bummed...because it was $199 for their Memorial Day Sale. I called them, and the guy said he would give me the $199 price. This was at about 3pm yesterday. The intake showed up at my door at 9am this morning. Talk about fast service (they are in Riverside).

I have the bassani axleback system and the diablosport 91 octane tune installed right now. I am hoping to see some noticeable gains after I install the K&N intake tonight.

I will let you guys know. Unfortunately, I wont be able to test it higher than about 30mph....because I don't get my license back till monday. I can however drive in our complex (private property).

I must say, the K&N and Flowmaster setup I have is fantastic!!!! Idef felt a power difference when I installed the flowmasters first and I reset the computer, really felt myself going into the seat more. and then when I installed the K&N, all I have to say is, HOLY S***!! Man does it open up the throttle more, more responsive in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. More growl too, i luv this kit!
