Unhappy Just dynoed my car today..do I have a lemon?

I'm really disappointed after having my car dynoed today. Even though I've only had my car for two weeks and it only has 650 miles on it, I figured I get some baseline runs before my car gets modded next week.

Yes, there are some variables that I'm sure affected my runs, but still, the numbers are shockingly low considering it's a 2007 Mustang GT 5 speed manual. Yes, it's bone stock...

Here's the story:
1. I only have 650miles on my car (bought it on Jan 17th)

2. I told the guys who dynoed my car not to take it past 6000 RPMs (maybe a mistake?)

3. The guy who tested it did so in 3rd gear on the first two runs and on the third and final run he put it in 4th gear. (2nd run was the best, but the numbers are so far from the 1st and 3rd)

4. He didn't use any fans, but it was a cold day and drizzling here in southern california, so I figured the car would have made good HP.

Here are the numbers:

Run1: run conditions: 65.16 F Humidity: 53% SAE: 0.98
Max power=229.40 MaxTorque= 234.48

Run2: run conditions: 65.62 F Humidity 46% SAE: 0.98
Max Power=242.48 Max Torque=245.27

Run3: run conditions: 65.85 F Humidity: 47% SAE: 0.98
Max Power=221.45 Max Torque=219.03

What the hell! I know it's not broken in yet...is this car going to gain 25 HP when it loosens up? Do I have a lemon GT?

I'm no expert on this but when I had mine dynoed there was only a 1-2 hp difference between runs. Seems really odd that you would have such large swings in the numbers. Maybe the dyno is not working properly

Was this a Mustang Dyno or a Dynojet ?
They read differently and the Dynojet gives the higher numbers that you see from most people. 242 on a Mustang Dyno is about 273 on a dynojet if I remember correctly. That's about right for a stock GT stick.

It was on a Dynojet winpep7.

You know it looks like the guy wasn't really sure where to attach the cable thingy either...

Maybe his dyno is out of calibration? Whether the engine is broken in completely or not depends some on your driving style during those 650 miles. IMO California cool or not he should have had a fan (blower). The runs are short, so its not likely to over heat, but just the same its better practice to have it. IMO he should have done all 3 runs in the same gear (following the scientific method). Not sure there is any point in going into 4th, though that will probably give you the least transmission losses for the run.

Did he plot you a power / torque curve?

First of all, don't let numbers worry you. I went thru a similar situation last year where I was expecting much higher numbers than what I got......

That being said, those numbers do seem really low and the fact that they varied so much makes me wonder about either the dyno, the operator, or both. I would give the car another couple thousand miles of break-in, and try a different shop.

Could they have taken power out of the 07s?

No air/fuel monitoring? That would be helpful too......

A dyno pull should always be done in a 1:1 tranny gear ratio... i.e., 4th gear. If the operator didn't know this, then I would doubt his abilities. Go somewhere else if you are really interested in finding out.

Agreed...they should have dynoed it in fourth. Also, I believe that the cars decrease power if the engine is cold/not warmed up. If you try punching the throttle right after startup, the car will just bog down and not provide power... Maybe that's what happened.

I wouldn't mind dynoing somewhere else, but is it bad for me to dyno the car and have them rev the crap out of it again when it's so new?

wait a little bit before going again.

but if your car is stock.. remember its just a ford v8, your not going to kill it with a few more passes on the dyno

and yes the car should be dynoed in 4th gear

Your car has 650 miles on it , it is time to take the training wheels off of it. Take it somewhere else, and open that bad boy up!

If you are anywhere near San Bernardino, contact Adam at ST Motorsports. Tell him I sent you. And let him run it up to 6500rpm!!

Just like everyone else said, go somewhere else. That seems really low to me. Mine did 262/282 with about the same miles.

AFBLUE, I noticed the side stripe in your avatar, is that a photoshop or your actual stripe? I've never seen one that reads "FORD".

It's a photoshop (my imaginary car until I can get the real thing in a few months), but you can buy the Ford rocker stripes here
http://wholesale-auto-decals.com/wak141.htm and here
http://www.graphic-express.com/k141_...de_stripes.asp

As you can see they are about $5-10 cheaper in the top link.
