Took the car to Delk Performance today to put it up on the dyno and see what the underdrive pullies, JLT intake and Diablo tuning would get me.

Before making any mods, we flashed the CPU back to stock to get a good baseline. In this tune it made 260hp@5250/280@4250TQ, HP was right in line with the baseline we did a couple of months ago (261.1HP@5250/269TQ@4250) but with a few lb/ft more in the torque department.

The plan called for the installation of the underdrives and another pull to see what they might add, but this did not happen because of a missing item in the kit.

Moving on, the next thing we did was install the Predator "performance" tune into the CPU. From what I have read, this tune is good for several HP on the '05's. In my case, however, it was only good for 6HP and 3.5TQ. (270@5250/283.5@4250).

Next on the agenda was the JLT CAI. What you need to know here is that the JLT MAF size is bigger and the unit itself flows much more air than the stock setup. This was obvious as we began the dyno pull and the Air/fuel mixture went lean rather quickly. The Diablo has an adjustment range from 0-40% on the rich side, and we increased it 15% before the next pull. Again, we had to abort the pull when it started to go lean. Making a futrther adjustment of 10% (for a total of +25% from stock) we found where we needed to be. This last pull netted us 288.3HP@6000/284.5@4500. Not only did the CAI make more power, it moved the peak higher in the RPM range. Clearly this is moving some air. It was felt there was more in the car with further tuning, but we ran out of time. At some point in the future (when I have all the underdrive pieces) I will go back and give the car some more dyno time.

In a nutshell, with only the JLT CAI and a tune, I was able to see a +28.3HP/4.5TQ increase over stock. Not too bad, but nothing near what some other are seeing with a dyno tune.

Garage,

I'll be heading to Delk next weekend for a baseline and then install the C&L intake and Predator tune.

Will be interesting to see the differences. How was your experience with Delk? I've never been there before but they sounded like good folks when I talke to them last week.

Thanks,

Bill

Great group of folks. I have known them for about 10 years now and they always treat me right.

28+ rwhp over stock without fine tuning is great!! As we said we spent many days perfecting our tune, so you will see more on your next trip.

I'm confused by the TQ. 4.5 is this correct? That doesn't make much since.
Can you post or email me the graphs?

Thanks Brodie, for the post and buisness. I hope your a happy JLT customer!!

That is a correct number, which concerns me a little. I also had the dreaded CEL light come on this morning, but think it has more to do with the tune than anything else. I need to get it back on the dyno for fine tuning. Most likely, once you have a Predator tune available, I will buy it and see how that works on my car.

Ouch... I hate that CEL. I hope you get it resolved. Keep us informed!

The CEL is certainly a tune issue and not a JLT intake issue, as the CEL codes were "Bank 1 lean" and "Bank 2 lean" (I forget the exact codes). I cleared them, but they were back withing 40 miles. I am having some other issues as well, such as a poor idel on cold startup and hesitation until the engine reaches operating temperature.

I will keep an eye on it and do not plan any "spirited" driving until the issue is completely fixed.

As a comparisan, my car with the C&L CAI and C&L predator tune netted me 290 RWHP and 309 RWTQ. NO CEL either.

I am wondering what your overall miles were. I had 8000 miles and the dyno guy thought my car was doing real well because the car's machinery had loosened up some.

A/F was 13:2 as well.

8200 miles on the car at the time of the dyno tune. I think it is just a learning curve for the tuner as I have been the first '05 GT they have really worked with.

I think my next mod is going to be an x pipe. Looks like I may need a tuner afterwards.
