JBA mufflers?
#1
Being and old school car guy (have always owned old cars) I have never really been to keen on how newer cars sound. I just ordered an 06 GT and now it's time to stock up on a few parts, starting with the exhaust.
So after listening to many sound clips of 05/06 mustangs with various exhaust setups, I have found that the JBA axel-back mufflers sound the best, they have a "hollow" sound that reminds me very much of a classic.
Does anyone have JBA axel back's on their mustang? Does it really sound hollow like that? or is it just this particular recording? (acoustics of the location, and the recording instrument play a lot in the recorded sound)

Are there any other mufflers that give a more hollow sounds, like a classic? Some tend to be more mellow, and others have more mid tones. I think it's the boost in the mid tones that I like.
Thanks :-)

Check out this thread about 1/2 way down the first page is a really good video of the JBA mufflers. I have them on my '05 mustang and this is the 3rd mustang that I have owned. Not too loud, not too soft, just right

If you are just doing an axleback swap, they do not sound as "hollow" as the sound on the JBA website. The video clip on the JBA website also had headers and other mods to the exhaust.

Thanks! Hmm... yes they don't sound anything like the clip I posted. Doh! I'll see about some long tubes, if I can find a way to pass inspection.
I see you are from Louisiana, me to! Born and Raised outside of Fort Polk. But unfortunatly, I'm in California now, emissions and inspection are a pain from what I hear.

My pleasure...
BTW, make sure you consider the SLP LMs before you decide on your axlebacks.

Now that is some good news, thanks for the info Don. I hope Chalon doesn't see this post, she wants to move to San Diego to live closer to her sister and dad.

Beginning April 1, 2005, vehicles being initially registered in California that were previously registered in another state will be exempt if the vehicle is a 1975 and older model-year vehicle. Newer vehicles, the first 6 model years, are not exempted upon initial registration in California. These vehicles are required to undergo a Smog Check Inspection.

The only way to get the "hollow" sound is to get long tube headers with JBA or Bassani axlebacks. I have had JBA axlebacks on and they do not have that sound by themselves. You may also need an offroad H or X pipe to get that sound exactly.

Haven't checked much on pricing since I've just recently become interested in the jba's. Is this a good deal for the LT headers and H-pipe?
