Issue with Steeda CAI
Issue with Steeda CAI
Hi all,
I got my 2008 Bullitt used and it came with BBK throttle spacers and a Steeda CAI. One day I was driving and noticed the hood tends to shake at speed (roughly 70MPH) from the front driver's side. I had my dad hop in and had him check it out from the passenger seat but there wasn't much of a shake.
My guess is that the heat shield sits up too high and doesn't let the hood close enough so air is pushing up the hood at speed. My first thought was to remove that rubber gasket that sits atop the heat shield and that might allow for better closure or i might try cutting out a piece of the heat shield that seems to be the high points.
Does anyone else with the Steeda CAI have this issue? Any other potential solutions?

Does the hood close flush with the fender? That should be your guide as to whether the CAI is pushing the hood up.
Some Bullitt owners had to readjust the stops because of hood flutter at high speeds.
You wouldn't want to trim or remove the CAI gasket where it meets the hood liner because that's what insures you are getting cold air which is in large part where the extra 15hp came from over the GT (plus revised tuning and harmonic balancer to take redline up to 6500 over the GT's 6250). The hood liner was redesigned for the factory FRPP CAI. I assume the Steeda CAI meets the liner properly.

I agree with Charlie, try adjusting your bump stops and do not cut the rubber of the CAI. Granted I don't have the Bullitt or the Steeda CAI but I had the hood flutter also and I adjusted the bump stops and the shaking largely went away.

The hood on the drivers side just sits a bit higher than the passenger side, I'm talking about a few millimeters or so. I'll try the bumper stops. I unfortunately don't have the oem parts to see if that alleviates anything
I have the Steeda CAI with an aftermarket hood and I had to trim my heat shield so it would clear the hood. You have to be careful you don't trim too much off , so that you'll still have a good seal with the velocity stack. I then went to the auto parts store and got a new rubber gasket to put back on ...

I feel like an idiot. Wasn't a throttle body spacer but a bbk throttle body. I was off today so I figured I'd clean up the throttle body. FYI bbk makes it super difficult, too many different sized nuts and and various torx screws.
I made the bumper stop a little lower, still have some hood flutter. The hood sits lower on the bottom but still around where the cai is. I can see in the hood where the rubber gasket hits, seems like maybe an 1/8th of an inch too high.
