Install cams without removing heads?

I'm getting some mixed messages from various shops regarding whether you need to pull the heads if you install stage 3 cams WITH springs and retainers. Anyone done this either way? I like Doug's price for the stage 3 cams/springs/retainers but don't have the big bucks for labor if the heads need to be removed and sent to the machine shop at all.

Anyone done the stage 1s, which I know don't require head removal? They just don't seem worth it...

John

No you don't need to pull the heads.. Shop air is all that you need.
You will need the 3v spring tool

+1 not a neccesity. Still a little lengthy of an install. Not bad, though.

I don't think it would be necessary to remove the cylinder head However I have been wondering if it can be done without removing the front covers? Does anyone know if you can do it all from up top?

heads dont need to be removed, all you need is something to hold up the valves.

Heads don't have to come off....front cover doesn't have to come off, shop air is not needed. Springs are not fun, but can be done in the car. I personally didn't notice a huge change in the car that we did stage 1's in. I love my stage 4's.

I was thinking about doing the stage 4,do you have a video of your car idleing or a sound clip of the sound of the cams?

These videos aren't the best and the car sounds much better in person. It will lope even harder when the idle is lowered.

Thanks I appreciate it. Sounds better in person. Videos were taken with a digital camera so not the best sound quality.

Did you have to forged the bottom end before installing the cams? I have a Vortech supercharger with charge cooler. If I install the cams will I need to forged the bottom end first? Is that the stage 4 cams? Just want to get all info before doing it.
