Alright...

The Ford Motorsport Cobra Crank can be had for $600 and requires the use of an 8 bolt flywheel/flexplate.

Am I correct that there is a particular flexplate that will fit this need AND fit for the 05+ Mustang?

It seems that I will be going with Manley H Beam Connecting Rods for $572.00 (part # 14042-8) and custom forged Big Bore (3.7") Pistons to up the total displacement to 305 (5.0 liters).

Im not quite sure what compression ratio I want to bring it (down?) to. I will eventually be throwing on a Supercharger, most likely a Kenne Bell.

Those rods are only good for 700HP translation 595 rwhp.

they are "rated" for 700hp, there is enough room to be safe. They arent going to fail @ 701 plus I think I will be very happy with ~600rwhp, I dont need anything crazy here. I just want to build a strong 5.0 liter block for nitrous use until I can afford that blower.

When I get a chance I'll get some answers from Manley on the big bore pistons for the 4.6 block.

Cause I live in California, pulling the headers out in another 5 years is gona be tough enough. Changing out an entire wiring harness and motor is light years beyond that.

~$2500 gets me in the motor ballpark.

I should also add that I have a built "Stroker" 385 Cleveland sitting right next to me. Forget the crate motor 5.0 in this case. The edge of "streetable" is defined by its .647" lift of cam and 300+ degress of duration on both intake and exhaust. If I wanted a "real" engine I already have that covered.

With that stated.... I want to work with the factory electronics, not against.

Hey Dan,
Well, I will offer you the opinion of a 52 yr. old motor head who has had experience with ford pushrod and mod motors. Stroker motors are great for about 20k in mileage before they wear out. Unless you have 15k to get a 5.0 Ford cammer motor and the electronics to go with it for only 400 hp than that is out. For my money I would investigate what it would take to put a 5.4 mod motor with supercharger in the 05. I presently own a 70 Mach 1 with a 351 Cleveland, had a 428 SCJ 69 Mach 1 and a 302 HIPO 68 Vert. But none of them would drive and out run this 05 with my present mods. I know you can put a 5.4 with supercharger in these 05's for way less than a GT500 and that's including a 6 speed.

Hey,

this is also a topic of interest to me. Where do I look for the 5.4 block? Ford Racing? Thanks!

Hey Rob,
Personally if I was serious about putting a 5.4 supercharged engine in a 05, I would start my search by looking for a wrecked Lightning or Harley truck that already has the forged goodies and supercharger and than do a simple rebuild. Next stop would be Ford racing crate engines. They have a complete 5.4 crate engine for like 6k. This would be alot more expensive route. But you would know what you have.
Just my 02$

JDM Engineering for their Ford GT based all aluminum 5.4L block.
I would guess that this motor is in the "If you have to ask" category.

And be prepared for a multitude of fitment and computer gremlins to solve. Swapping a 5.4 for the 4.6 is more than likely a lot harder than it sounds...
