Hurst Comp Plus Shifter Quality??

There was a lot of discussion around the Hurst Comp Plus shifter (392-0201) in terms of rattling/vibration noise, bad install instructions, etc from about a year ago. Has anyone installed one of these lately? Does this problem still exist (or other problems). Hurst doesn't appear to be shipping the newer Billet model (391-5201). Has anyone installed the Billet in the Mustang and has this resolved the rattle/noise problem? I'm going for the retro look, but not willing to deal with noise and/or quality problems.

Put the 0201 in mine. Piece of cake. Absolutely no problems, No Noise. Was a tad stiff at first. Some call it Notchy. I love it. Of course, I've had Hurst gears since I can ever remember starting out in a Olds 442 W-30, back in 69. So, I'm kinda use to them anyhow. Don't plan on the 5201 ever coming out, especially with the merger/takeover of them.

I suppose you mean the 391-0201? That's the Hurst Comp shifter. They are easy to install, (a little stiff at first, as mentioned above), but are great all the way around. I love the way it feels, too.

As for the Comp Billet model, that will eventually come out. I have faith in B&M/Hurst.

I've got the Hurst Comp shifter in my car, and have had no issues at all. I highly recommend it!

Me too.. I love mine...=)
The billet plus unit will eventually be released, but it will likely be at least another 60 days or so..We have solved the rattle issues along with the up and down movement it had when Mr. gasket still owned the brand

I'm not sure about rattling, but it is likely you'll have a bit more movement and you'll hear some gear noise, but nothing offensive. I've always liked the positive feel of Hurst shifters.

Go with an MGW shifter with the Hurst ball. Retro look plus the best shifter on the market.

I have to say... the MGW unit is great, and I wont knock it. I saw the quality workmanship that went into it, and it sounds like a great deal. The price is a little steep, but that's not the issue. I just don't see any need for the extra features.

I LOVE the Hurst shifter, and have had absolutely ZERO problems with it. They shift nice, install easy, and hold up great. As well, the handle sits in a great spot in my opinion, if not they have a MILLION to choose from out of the catalog! Secondly, for a billet unit the Hurst is going to be great, but the Steeda TriAx shifter is great in my opinion as well. If I had a track car and wanted something to beat on, I'd buy the Steeda (or Hurst when available), and for a weekend warrior with the retro look and nice feel for the street I'd go Hurst all the way.

Not knocking any shifters out there, because the MGW, Pro 50 are nice as well... I just don't see the need to spend extra money when these are already a quality item. Just my 2 cents... going from an installers standpoint, and affordability standpoint.

I noticed on the SGTs that the shifter boot has an oval grommet on top of the boot to keep it down on the handle. Does this come with the shifter or is it only on Shelbys? Can I use my stock boot?
