How to Improve Traction?
ok so i have an 05 gt auto, with about 300 to the wheels, the stock ones. i have 4:10's, frpp ceramic shorties, steeda underdrive pullies, steeda intake, bamachips xcal-2 tune, magnaflow x-pipe with high flow cats, and flowmaster axlebacks.
well i got the new tune the other day and traction is an issue, i love the 4.10's and the tune but i am scared i will never get it all to the ground off the line. i currently have stock tires, eibach prokit, bmr adj panhard bar and brace, lca's, and lca reloc brackets. when if i tap the gas at a stand still i go peeling out. i am going to get some new 18x10's out back with 285 kdw rubber but will that hook up on the street? or are drags the only thing that will hook. how are you 400 hp guys even hooking up on the street?
plese help

If you're looking for hookup off the line you need drag radials. Are you interested in traction at the drag strip or on the street? If you want it for everyday driving I'd suggest a drag radial like the Nitto 555Rs. A true drag radial like a Mickey Thompson biasply tire (which hooks up better than the Nittos) doesn't last long on the street mileage wise because the rubber is so soft. You'll get more mileage out of the Nitto tire.
And don't get caught in the rain with drag tires on.

The stock tire are what's killing you. IMHO, they are way too skinny. I've got 285's mount on 10 inch rims in the back. MUCH IMPROVED! Not only in straight line traction, but a lot better cornering.
All I can say is when getting street tires for launch traction, get as much width and sidewall as you can find. Even then it may not be good enough.

so 285/40/18 bfgoodrich kdw will help but i will still peel out...
how wide of tire can you put on a 10 inch rim

next time out try lowering the air pressure in the rears to 23-25 psi. that was the only way mine will somewhat hook. actually it hooks okay most of the time. with normal street pressure forget about it i'm spinning through 3rd. the stock pirelli are impressive to me for a mud and snow tire they do okay at the track. just a light burnout to clean and heat a little and when i come down the return road it's kicking up rocks and crap just like my super gasser does.
You heard wrong. Lowering the pressure will totally help at the strip. I lower my Nitto all season NT450's down to 25-28 at the track and traction is about as good as it will get on street tires. (a 2.0 60ft) To get a better 60 ft, I'm going to need DR's for sure.
If I leave street pressure in them I loose .2 off my overall 1/4 time, and my 60ft is about a 2.2-2.3.
I'm an auto as well

I personally wouldn't lower air pressure too much for street use. Low air pressure increase resistance, causes heat buildup, and increases wear.

Ah, true.... I run 35 on the street. Traction on the street....don't mash the throttle, ease into it. Why do you need to mash it on the street anyway, unless you want do a little burnout

UHHHH STREET RACING, GOSH!!!!
Widere stickier tires are the best option. I am going with 255/45-18 up front and 285/40-18 in the rear...
Also a little weight transfer never hurts... You can move the battery to the trunk and get another 50LB on the rear tires...
