I've had this car for about 1 month now and I've noticed that it seems to heat up quite a bit. The footwell and center console around the shifter seem to get pretty warm after driving the car long enough to get up to operating temperature (warmer than I would expect from experience with other mustangs). The issue is magnified if doing a little "spirited" driving and seems to happen pretty quickly.

It hasn't threatened to overheat, but this car is so much more refined than the previous models, I'm suprised it is this pronounced. I don't live in an area of the country that gets very hot either.

I'm just looking for some feedback from other owners here. Maybe some of you posters in the south could give me your take. I've read that the '05 is somewhat prone to "heat soak" on the dyno, and will drop considerable HP without some big cooling fans blowing.

I'm going to check with the dealer at my first (official) oil change, but I don't expect that they would tell me much. What's your take mustang performance forum? Thanks.

I noticed the same a while back. When I first got the car, I could feel the heat rising from the center console/shifter area. I think that it may have stopped now though or I may have just gotten used to it. I will check when I go out later today.

Sounds like you might be missing either a heat shield under the car, or some insulation from under the carpet.

Mine gets warm after a long highway drive, but just driving around town it's fine. I find it kinda weird too.

I've had mine since November and noticed the heat right away in stop and go driving, so much to the point of turning on the air in 50 degree weather. On the open road at constant speed it is less noticable.

It gets warm for me also. The price that you pay for performance I guess?

I thought mine was geting hot because of the longtube's... Mine get's real hot in the floorboard area and 100 degree weather is just around the corner. :bang: I guess I will try some Dynomatt Extreme under the car. It's either that or fill the floor board up with ice every morning...

Yep me too , I think that there is less covered metal and around the stick area there is more open-ness so heat rises right and think thats the way the design has it here ? now later on watch if this is an issue you will see that they will have a cooling channle or a port in place to help the air flow in such areas to keep cooler ? my two cents ?

I'm not so sure about that price. I had an '01 Cobra that performed essentially the same as this '05 and didn't notice this much heat from it.

Can dynomatt extreme be used for this application? I know it is used for sound insulation, but I would be afraid it might absorb more heat that it would reflect, since it is essentially asphalt with aluminum backing. Also, it adds quite a bit of weight. I was thinking of the kind of material used to wrap headers or something similar. I don't know whats available.

I'm just suprised that a car this refined in so many other ways has this issue. To be sure, it's a minor one, but it has me concerned the car is running too hot since it's not something I'm used to. I don't trust factory temp. guages that always just go to the middle and stay there.
