My buddy told me that figuring Horsepower at the wheels is different for each car?

Is there a formula for the 2005 Mustang GT for figuring hp at the wheels?

I searched to no avail...

thanks!!

Pretty much stick it on a Dyno to find out what you have because it does vary for each vehicle.

Yes, it does vary with each car but you can get a reasonable estimate by figuring a 15% lose for a manual or a 18% lose for an automatic.

Example: 300 hp advertised at the flywheel equals about 255 hp at the rearwheels on a manual.

The '05 Mustang with a manual is getting from 265 to 275 hp at the rear wheels so it looks like Ford is under-rating the flywheel hp by 10 to 20 hp.

Has anyone had the driveline loss measured when their car was on a dyno? A good dyno can measure actual driveline loss just about as easy as it does engine power. Then you KNOW what the loss is instead of the "rule of thumb" is only a gross estimate at best....

Woah woah woah, what happened to the advertised 300 hp mustang!? I ordered my 2005 Mustang under the, ostensibly false, pretenses that it puts out 300 hp and that I would be building on it from there... is this true or what's going on here??

They're talking about rear-wheel horsepower. The 300HP rating from Ford is for fly-wheel horspower. 265-275 rear-wheel horsepower equates to around 311-324 fly-wheel horsepower for a manual tranny car. That means that Ford's 300HP is underrated.

Go to slowgt.com and click on racers math. That is a good source to figure out power without a dyno if you run at the track.

awesome. So it would be a safe bet that the 05 Stang is actually 310-320hp then. And for sure those numbers with a good intake setup and exhaust.

The car has a great exhaust already.

The best Magnaflow could do with it on a stock motored 05 Stang was a 5hp increase.

310 or so is an accurate guesstimate for the crank.
