I just took a closer look at the stock box & one of the after market boxes. I'm going to call my Ford dealer over the next day or so to see if I can order just the top portion of the box that houses the map sensor.

If I can order that part I will modify it by cutting off the flat section, mounting a K & N cone & installing my sensor. Should be easy & cheap.

What do you guys think?

Spend the money and get a kit. When you start messing around with air flow into the engine, that can get a bit scary. And you will void your warranty for sure.

Think about it. You have only a few bucks to loose if it does not work. Do it. I would but its cold where I live. I have not looked in the engine compartment other than at time of purchase. Where does the air enter the box? Do you know if a shop manual is available yet? I went on Helm's site and there was nothing on the 05 on CD or a book. I buy the parts list also but I got them at E bay.

If I do the mod or by an after market kit I would assume either may void the warranty.

I have always liked to do things myself if I see the opportunity to do it as well or better, or where I can save money.

When I talk to my dealer I will ask about the manual, as I also want one.

The air is taken in at the very bottom of the box. Small tube facing the left fender area.

Not sure about the current warranty but I have made changes to air and exhaust systems of other new Ford products with out any problem. Could you not put the orginal top back on when you went in for warranty work? If you just want to use a K&N why not just purchase one to replace the org motorcraft filter.
My plan is to change rear end gears in the other one I ordered. How will they know I did this? I still say do it.
You do not purchase shop manuals from the dealer. For many years I have purchased then from HELM Inc but when I went to the site it did not show one for the 05 Mustang. I have the CD as well as the hard copy for my current rides. The dealer now uses CDs but I find them a pain to use. Both CDs were purchased on E bay as was the parts list. The parts list is the same list a body shop uses. This is almost a must as you can see how the parts fit.

After talking to my dealer he said the air box assembly list for $196. I get a 35% discount, but then I have to build it. You can't just get the top section.

Got an email from MMR answering some questions. Their product sounds nice, will probably go with it.

Bryan, let us know how the MMR box works, etc.

Thx

I am also wanting to see Bryan's dyno'd results with and without the MMR intake, although I went ahead and ordered it anyway. Spent a full day e-mailing back and forth with the head guy over there, Mark. And am really impressed with him and his company. Pony, obviously you might want to wait to hear from Bryan on the results, but I definitely say to go with MMR. They have a great product. Of course, hard numbers will prove whether or not that is true.

Yes, Mark answered my email. I just sent him another asking if they plan on doing an alloy tube to replace the OE rubber tube.

Let us know when you get yours & how you like it.

I know MMR is not doing an alloy air tube. Nor a heat shield. Mark at MMR said that neither got better results, so they opted out. Their kit is real simple... not much to it. Comes with an S&B filter, which is supposed to outflow K&N (they tested both). And of course the MAF sensor. Averaged 10HP gains, but can get as much as 15HP. Took a tenth of a second off the quarter mile time. And Mark said that in the car they tested, it got at least 20 more miles per tank of gas. And he had recently heard from a client that he got 38 more miles per tank of gas. So, fairly improved gas mileage... roughly 10% going by that number. At that rate, and with me filling up once a week or more, it will pay for itself in just over a year. I am curious to get the results from Bryan, but I'm sure I'll be satisfied.

I put 40K a year on my Stang's. If I get any increased gas mileage that is a big plus. Thanks for the info.
