Help! suspension question
I had my GT lowered using BMR springs front and rear, after it was done I noticed a rubbing noise every so often when turning the steering wheel just a little.....now that it is getting colder I am hearing the noise a lot more. The place that did my front end alignment told me I was missing the plastic part that goes between the top of the spring and the fender well. My question is, does this part exist and should they have removed it from my old springs and installed it on my new springs? and is this easily fixed and what is the part I am looking for? Thanks in advance to any help I can get on this matter

I'm trying to remember a plastic piece and I can't remember one for the front on my install. Just the strut cap w/ the 4 bolts on it, no plastic piece.
On the rear there MIGHT be a rubber/plastic spring seat/hat in the top but not the front. Front is just a strut...
hmmmmmm

I don't think you could be missing the upper bearing for the strut- it is in a plastic casing, but it would be nearly impossible to have it missing. Do you ahve any other symptoms?
Very likely, the missing piece to which they are referring, is the rubber tube-like channel that is wound around a small portion of the stock front springs- it's just a short piece, but it certainly serves some purpose. During install, it should have been peeled off the stock springs and placed on the new springs. Not sure if that would cause the rubbing sound to which you refer.
Also make sure that the struts were installed correctly at the top mounts- open your hood and look at the the top of the strut where it comes through the engine bay- is it centered in the hole on each side, or is it off-center? It should be centered, and if you shine a flashlight up through the bottom of the mount, you should feel a small cut-out, about the size of half a nickel, all the way at the top of the mount- that cut-out should be facing outboard- towards the wheel. You can also feel the cut-out with your fingertip, if you stick your finger up there and run it around the very top of the mount.
I might be missing something- anybody?

No...I think you are correct about the plastic piece attached to the top of the springs in the front...mine do not have that....but ford does not sell it as a stand alone part...I think it comes with the spring, or atleast that is what I was told by my parts guy, I am wondering if there is an aftermarket source for this piece

ok......I found my old springs at their garage and the pieces were still on them ....its just a rubber sleeve that raps the bottom of the spring and insulates it from rubbing.....they are going to put them on for me.....no charge of course
