Didn't change the TB back to stock, but did try to put it back to the way it was running before. Had the same failsafe come up. Others have run thier cars with the same aftermarket TB and no tune as the one that I have so I don't think that is the problem.
Doug, I will call you once I hear from the dealership and know more about what's up.
Doug, I have had the Xcal II since November of 2005 if it is an old version then it is possible the base file did get corrupted.
The car was running great after I left the dealer last Saturday and all day Sunday. It just still wouldn't pass inspection. They didn't reprogram the PCM, just checked to see what was going on with the sensors showing not ready.
The failsafe trouble started when I tried to put it back to stock.
I hope to know more Wednesday from the dealer.

Preliminary diagnosis from the dealership is that the TB motor went out and is causing the car to go into failsafe mode.
Tech said he would take it off my aftermarket TB and send it back on the original stock TB so I took it to him. Also wants to flash the car after the install for the updated software.
Car was in stock form when I hade it picked up to take to the dealer except for the TB and axel backs so I don't think this will be a problem.

Dealership called and the car is ready and will now pass inspection. They did also have to replace the LFP TB because it was binding up and also causing the failsafe mode. Don't know if it was the TB motor or the TB itself that caused the problem but they are both off the car now.
Don't think I will replace the TB so I guess I will have to send my Xcal 2 back to have it updated.

just had mine inspected & it passed. they did not do a sniff test but they did ck for cel codes.

Car just passed inspection but everything is back to stock with the exception of the Magnaflow axel backs.

I guess this thread further confirms that aftermarket TBs are a bad idea. Thanks for the good info! Sorry you had to teach us the hard way.

Hey Steve, I just went through a similar issue here in Houston, but my inspection guy seemed to know what to do. Apparently the 05's computer doesnt play well with the computer they use to inspect for emissions, he told me just about every 05 Ford he has seen fails the initial pc test. They just hook up to the computer and check for codes, but the 05 almost always fails, so he had to do a manual test on mine. Stuck a sniffer in the pipe and all that, and it turned out fine.

I see you had a different issue with your TB as well, but I did have a similar experience and thought I'd share.

Computer worked ok on mine after all the mods were taken off and returned to stock. May be something with the software they are working with.

Hey guy,

Great!! I'm glad you got it resolved, funny thing though with it being the TB as my OWN personal LFP TB nearly left me stranded on the dyno. When I would load a tune into it it would go straight into failsafe. Those things are JUNK, pure and simple.

Please contact me for further instructions on how to work your x2, DONT TRY TO INSTALL A TUNE RIGHT NOW.

I am also wondering where you took it? What kind of tune do you have?



The reason I have seen tuned S197s fail here is because the rear 02's are turned off. The OBDII check will fail, and some places won't try the manual sniffer. My other option was to try and get another tune that still has the 02's on, and change back to my stock H of course, but wont freak out because of the CMCV delete plates. I don't mind changing my intake and H-pipe out, but I don't want to to change the plates every year. They are very easy to swap, but I don't like screwing things into aluminum unless I really need to.

I'm glad I have 5 more months to get this all figured out.

Doug maybe you can answer my question. Is the 05-07 Mustang CAN or OBDII?? If it is CAN then that would explain why the States computer can not read the Monitors status.

Ford has started converting some cars and trucks to CAN which is why i ask. I know some of the F-250's started to use can back in 04 I think it was.

It's CAN and OBD-2, the CAN stands for Controller Area Network and it still had to abide by OBD-2 regulations. Still, what most people are refering to this car as is a CAN Network vehicle.

I know my buddy owns his own shop and his Smog Check Machine can not read the CAN vehicles. Which is why I asked the question.
