1. Had the stock intake installed, with the HC removed; and installed the Predator 91 octane tune. Ran like a champ. Drove the car for a couple months. 17-18 mpg.
2. Disconnected the battery, installed the K&N intake, re-connected the battery and drove the car for a week. 14mpg. Noticed the car getting slower and not as quick (in reving).
3. re-flashed the PCM with the 91 octane tune.
car runs much much better.
so by disconnecting the battery when I installed the K&N intake, and this resetting the computer; I fouled up the tune?
this doesn't seem right...

so by leaving the battery disconnected...and resetting the computer...I also needed to re-install the Tune AGAIN?

I would bet its lean after the k@N!
i DONT CARE WHAT THE KIT SAID !
when you put the tune in it changes the air fuel curve to around 13.1 from stock 12.1 and the intake does the same so your lean!

ok so install the new part, reset the computer, then install the tune. so I should reset the computer, then without starting the car....install the 91 octane tune; then run the car so it learned??
is this what you are saying?
is this what you are saying?
I installed my intake and let the comp relearn idle like it says to after reconnecting battery, no tune and the mileage didnt change except on the freeway its slightly better but only when cruisin at higher speeds (90mph better than 80)

wait a minute. You installed a tune before getting the K&N but when you put the K&N in you didn't retune the PCM for it? You should have gotten a different tune.

K&N advertises that a tune is not necessary with their CAI.......

what different tune John?
I would love to find a K&N tune somewhere.
My question was...and still no one has answered-
Tune is installed - unhooked battery, installed K&N - ran car. Do I need to REINSTALL the 91 OCTANE TUNE after UNHOOKING the battery? Or Once you flash the PCM...is it flashed untill you flash something different.

But ,you should take it to a dyno to tune just add fuel where it is lean.
try to get 13.1 across the chart.

I'm so confused. People keep contradicting each other.
I understand I should go get it dyno tuned, but in what order should I
1. reset the battery and 2. install the 91 octane tune

You could have the battery out for a year.
But your car needs to learn the diablo tune and adjust so when you change your air intake its :bang: does not know what it going on and holds back on the power till it re-learns it self.

ok, so should I do this-
flash back to stock tune
reset computer by unhooking battery
hook up battery, let car idle and "learn" the K&N
Instal 91 Octane tune...let car "learn tune"
does this sound right?

1. unhook battery
2. install air intake
3. hook up battery
4. let car idle re-learn
5. go to dyno
6. adjust a/f

you dont have to take out the diablo tune so skip that part.
1. unhook battery
2. install air intake
3. hook up battery
4. let car idle re-learn
5. go to dyno
6. adjust a/f

Spend the 50 bucks
I will bet its running lean.

is that all it will take? $50? I thought most dyno places were $200 an hour
