I met up with Davids2Toys today at an awesome Mustang car show at Moroso's headquarters in Guilford CT, and had a heck of a time looking at all kinds of show-quality Stangs.

But while there I was showing Dave under the hood of my '05 GT, how the rubber snorkel connected to the throttle bodies has bluish marks on it, like it had some kind of heat problem. My car was delivered on Mar 21 and has 3000 miles, and no real problems, but looking at Dave's engine and the other '05s at the show, none really had the bluish marks that mine has.

Here are some pictures of the snorkel. After taking the pics, I used Mother's "Back to Black" on it, and it cleaned up, so maybe it's no big deal? What do you all think?

I nopticed that was happening on mine - but right after that, I installed my JLT so it wasn't an issue....

Would be curious as to the cause though......

It does get hot under that hood. You have a tube made of latex and petrochemicals. Stands to reason that it would leach out some of chemicals. My question would be how the heat would effect the Back to Black stuff. I use it on my black stuff under the hood and I will get a slight frosting effect from the B2B product. Mind you that I have a C&L CAI, so the rubber hoses are the only pliable stuff that I use it on.

The way heat rages through that firewall on warm days, it's no wonder the thing turns color. These babies run pretty warm.

Mine looked like that when I picked it up at the dealership! It had 2.1 miles on it then! I just cleaned it the way I clean everything else and it hasn't come back.

A little simple green and a rinse. Then with a microfiber wet with formula 2001 I wiped it down. A lot of black transfers to the towel so make sure you never want to use it for anything other than under the hood.

Can't say for sure that I ever noticed that type of discoloration, although there was an article in ME, that talked about removing the filter in the tube just before the air filter. I did that with less then 3000 miles on it. And just recently replaced the whole thing with a AFE CAI. There was no discoloration at all. Maybe the filter???? not sure.

Ditto, ours looked like that from day 1. I think it's more of a manufacturing process issue, don't think it has anything to do with the heat from the engine.

Could be residual mold release. Nothing to worry about.
