I am currently saving money to buy heads and cam. What do you guys recommed as far as quality, performance, and price? is there any certain brand that i should look for and is there companies that i should stay away from? How is the quality with the blow by racing heads and their stage 2 cams? how bout livernois heads? comp cams? is it even worth it to put money into these heads and cams? i would eventually have a supercharger on the car and also would like to know if it is safe on these motors to have a head, cam, and supercharger setup. i know i would have to build up the bottom end. what should i look for?

 

Im not sure about the heads but I know a lot of people are leery of the BBR cams. I know EmperorJordan runs them and he really likes them, but there are a handful of people who love comp and just don't trust BBR. So who knows?

I would put a supercharger on it and take my time picking out which set of heads/cams to put on the next motor for the car, while enjoying the superchargers whine and added ponies. By that time there should be a wider selection.

 

i know Bamachips has compcams that would work great with stock and supercharged engines, for head i would not know

 

I've been looking at those http://www.livernoismotorsports.com/ heads for a while now.

 

Livernois has some good stuff... I personally am very happy with my BBR cams, and will go with their heads too when I build.

If a lumpy idle is at all important to you, BBR is the only way to go. None of the Comp Cams for the 3v have a lumpy idle.

 

yea performance for me is somewhat of a factor for the cams, but i definitely want that old school idle

Not trying to answer for jordan but if I remember right, he didn't do a before/after dyno. I think with the cams he was around 305 rwhp, but he can clarify.

 

tom is right. but that was wiht just cams and intake... no other mods. I think the number should have been higher, as my differential was really ****ed at the time, and I feel like that was robbing power.... but I havent had it redynoed.

it feels about the same as stock down low, but at 3500 and up, it SCREAMS. They are blower cams, so like I said... not much down low right now.

305 at the rear wheels doesn't seem bad at all. As I remember, and correct me if I'm wrong, a stock GT does about 270-280 at the rear wheels. So at best these cams seem to be good for about 35 horses. Now I'm not sure if cams in the past have created bigger increases than that or not?

 

The cams sound awesome, for sure. And to be fair, since they're blower cams its hard to say if they're performing as well as they would normally since he doesn't have a blower. But to be honest, I was kinda disappointed in the power gains.... with an intake, pullies, delete plates, and offroad pipe with the right tune you can break the 300 rwhp mark on a manual transmission car.

I have seen cams make a big increase though in other situations- look here at Brenspeed: http://www.brenspeed.com/tech/index.html They've had great results with the Comp cams and I've seen that car run at the track in person- it too is an animal over 3000 rpms.
