Stopping distance invovles more than a brake upgrade, vehicle dynamics and traction are just as important. Cosmetics aside, the biggest benefit to the Mustang is increased endurance under repeated heavy braking.

The stock setup is okay for every day use, but marginal when your trying to eek out that last 10th on the road course. Talk to anybody who road races about the current car and they will tell you it handles fine, but the car is too heavy for its brakes which shows up as fade (just cant scrub off the speed fast enough to allow time in between for cooling). Of course with its extra 400 pounds of heft, the GT brakes would have been completely useless on the GT500.

Hey there,

Its actually more than just 400 pounds - the GT500 is over 550 pounds heavier (564 to be exact) - and its all in the nose of the car (cast iron block and 6 speed trans).

Curb weight on a Mustang GT with manual trans is 3356 (the heaviest Mustang GT is 3657 which is a convertible w/automatic). Curb weight on the GT500 is 3920 (the convertible is 4040).

Bump for edit, now using smaller spacers up front, for those who have been asking about fitment issues. Please see first post in thread. Thanks, Kristina
